    Posted 05-18-2022 18:09

    Hello everybody,

    my colleagues and I work with Visual COBOL (VC) for Eclipse 7.0 Version: 7.0.00247 under a host: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8350U CPU @ 1.70GHz, 8 cores, 15G,  Windows 10 , 64 bit.

    We have the following issue:

VC crashes after starting it by fatal error; see below

    # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
    #
    #  EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
    #
    # JRE version: OpenJDK Runtime Environment AdoptOpenJDK (11.0.8+10) (build 11.0.8+10)
    # Java VM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Client VM AdoptOpenJDK (11.0.8+10, mixed mode, g1 gc, windows-amd64)
    # Problematic frame:
    # C  [ucrtbase.dll+0x26cbc]

The Java Thread  "Cobol Indexing" deamon is causal. After set '-Ddisable.cobol.indexing=true' in eclipse.ini it works fine again.
The Cobol project is 384 MB in size.

Did you got this error before? Can you support us.

    Best regards,

    Eike Weiss

    Hello Eike Weiss,

Welcome to the Micro Focus Community site. So far, I have not found any other reports of this issue in our Case database.

Are these Native or Managed (JVM) COBOL projects?

Does the problem happen consistently for all developers?

From the version information provided, it sounds like you may be on the base version of Visual COBOL for Eclipse 7.0. Just FYI Micro Focus releases Patch Updates, with product fixes for a given Version, on a roughly monthly cadence. You might try upgrading to the latest Patch Update to see if the issue continues to occur. At this point, the latest Patch Update for 7.0 is Patch Update 7. A customer with current product maintenance can download Patch Updates from the Micro Focus SLD (Software, Licenses and Downloads) website (https://sld.microfocus.com/mysoftware/download/downloadCenter). If you have any issues reaching your downloads, please open a Support Case to get assistance with this.

Please note that if you upgrade your Visual COBOL product to a new Version or Patch Update, you should also upgrade any related products (for example, Visual COBOL Development Hub or COBOL Server) to be the same Version and Patch Update level. You can confirm your Patch Update level by going to Help-Micro Focus-Product Information in the Eclipse menu.

    Hello Mr. Blair McDonald,

    thanks for your reply.

    This/these is/are Native Cobol project(s).
We've got a few developers (~15) with this problem. Fortunately not all, yet. Today we've got the same issue with VC6.

First, we will update every VC version to 7.0.7, and of course any related products.
I will update you. Probably the problem is fixed with the update.

    Best regards
    Eike Weiss
