  • 1.  Visual Cobol on JVM - licensing?

First: Please excuse my lacking knowledge of the Micro Focus product structure and licensing.

I have built a little Visual Cobol application in Eclipse and wish to run this on our customer sites. We will of course run this on the Java Virtual Machine BUT from my understanding the customer also does need a cobol runtime installed for licensing purposes? If so, is this runtime product the "Cobol Server"?

Our customers are mostly on the "Micro Focus Server" product (running code built in NetExpress). Will we be able to run our java application on machines with "Micro Focus Server" or do we need to upgrade to "Cobol Server"?

(Can NetExpress built code run on "Cobol Server"?)

Hi Rune, I'd really like to hear more about your JVM COBOL application. Could you contact me on the email address below and I can also connect you to people that can tell you about licensing your application.

We'd need to understand a little more about your current application built using Net Express and your new Visual COBOL application in order to answer your question about the need to upgrade or not.
