Hi Rockets Forum,

Which could be the better way to set up an iCluster replication within the same server? If I should set the same server as Target, how can be this possible?

Hi Alfredo,

Design of replication to the same server depends on your goals for the replication method you select.

If you are wanting to use the instance for tape backups without interrupting the application, you could create a separate LPAR to contain the instance of the application and data.  You would then need to add a new node to the cluster for the new destination and create replication groups pointing to the local target LPAR.  Using a separate LPAR helps to secure the replicated data and allows actions on the replicated data to not negatively impact the state or accessibility of the production applications.

iCluster also supports 'intra' replication, within the same node from one library to another library.  Your replication groups would be from the same source and target node name and you must override the target library in the group definition.  It has some practical use to replicate a specific DB2 file set to a new destination to allow users to exploit real time data without accessing the production data directly.

We would love to hear the details of how you plan to use the feature.

Thank you for the question!
