Uniface is pleased to announce the release of Uniface Anywhere Version 6.2.2.32331.
Uniface Anywhere 6 provides new features and enhancements that improve both system administration and end-user experience.
It has updated native, web, and mobile clients, and improved administrator control of licensing, Windows Updates, and installation.
New Features:
OpenID Connect
Uniface Anywhere support for OpenID Connect (OIDC) enables enterprises and SMBs to provide their users with single sign-on support via OIDC identity providers such as Okta and Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS). For example, it enables users who sign in to an enterprise web application or portal using an identity provider such as Okta or ADFS, to access Uniface Anywhere Hosts from their browsers without having to reenter their credentials. In addition, it enables users to authenticate to Uniface Anywhere Hosts using a wide variety of third-party smart cards and multi-factor authentication devices and products.
Once a user has authenticated via OIDC, Uniface Anywhere gives administrators several options for authenticating the user automatically on Windows. For example, if the identify provider is integrated with the organization’s Active Directory, Uniface Anywhere can automatically sign the user in to user’s domain account. Alternatively, if Active Directory integration is not required or desired, Uniface Anywhere can automatically create a local Windows account for the user.
Web App Support for Mobile Sense
Web App Support for Uniface Anywhere’s Mobile Sense technology makes Windows applications behave more like mobile apps when they are accessed from a mobile browser.
Integrated Web Server
Uniface Anywhere’s Integrated Web Server greatly simplifies browser-based deployments by allowing browsers to connect directly to the Application Publishing Service (APS) on its standard port (491, by default) and download the Uniface Anywhere Web App and associated HTML files. This eliminates the need to use a separate web server (e.g., IIS) to enable browser-based access to Uniface Anywhere hosts. Administrators no longer need to configure SSL/TLS on both the APS and the web server or route traffic to different ports and servers based on the protocol.
Administrator Messages
The Administrator Messages feature allows administrators to send messages to connected users and alert them of system maintenance and other events.
File Open Redirection Support from Windows Explorer
File Open Redirection enables users to open specified file types in applications running on the client. In earlier versions of Uniface Anywhere, this feature was not supported when files were opened from Windows Explorer. File Open Redirection now supports files that are opened from Windows Explorer.
Downgrade Support
Uniface Anywhere includes a new utility that enables administrators to downgrade from a newer version 6.x
Uniface Anywhere Host to an older version 6.x Uniface Anywhere Host. The utility backs up the host's Uniface Anywhere settings, uninstalls the current version, installs the old version and restores the host's Uniface Anywhere settings.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
Provides an extra layer of security by optionally requiring end users to enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app (Uniface Anywhere recommends Google Authenticator and Authy) on a smart phone, in addition to their username and password. This renders brute force and dictionary password searches useless–which is especially critical as more end users access corporate work computers while working from home, driving an increase in brute force attacks. 2FA also reduces the burden of forcing a complex password policy.
Branding allows
Customers to replace Uniface Anywhere’s branding on end user interface elements (e.g., Sign In dialog, Program Window, etc.) with the customers’ own corporate images, logos, and names.
AppController
Is a next-generation replacement of the Uniface Anywhere App that can be started from a computer’s desktop, a mobile device, or a web browser.
The Strong Encryption Certificate Wizard
Allows administrators to easily generate and apply trusted SSL certificates for Uniface Anywhere Hosts, enabling strong encryption and SSL/TLS security without purchasing a certificate from a third-party Certificate Authority.
File Open Redirection
Streamlines workflow by allowing end users to open specified file types in applications running on the client. Administrators can enable the feature for select file types (e.g., XLSX, PDF, DOCX, etc.) so that when a user attempts to access a file of a specified type from a host application that does not directly support it (e.g., opening an XLSX in Outlook), the file will instead be opened on the client with the relevant client application (e.g., Excel).
URL Redirection
Allows end users to click web links that open in the default browser on the client rather than the default browser on the host, so end users can efficiently access web content and videos running in Uniface Anywhere sessions.
Video Replay
Enables applications and browsers running in Uniface Anywhere sessions to replay video content on Uniface Anywhere clients.
Third-Party Load Balancer Support Improvements
Let administrators centrally manage hosts and sessions that are accessed via third-party load balancers. Using the new Farm Manager and Farm Host roles, administrators can configure settings on all hosts in a farm at once, and they can manage and shadow sessions running on any host in the farm. In addition, these new roles enable end users connecting to Uniface Anywhere Hosts via third-party load balancers to start sessions on one device (e.g., a computer in an office), disconnect, and then reconnect to their sessions from a different device (e.g., a home computer). Uniface Anywhere automatically reconnects users to their sessions, even when the load balancer fails to connect a user to the host on which the user’s session is running.
