When a program locks up and I have to close Accuterm to get out of it,  the system leaves users logged on.  How can I free up those users without rebooting.

    Hal,

Had the same problem.  Try LOGOUT.  Check out the documentation.

Well, if LOGOUT does not work, then you probably need to kill the process.

You can get the PID from the LISTU command. You can then use kill on linux or Task Manager on Windows (although I would use SysInternals ProcessExplorer).

Better still, can you find what is locking up the program? Then you can avoid the issue.

Also, when the program locks up, can you BREAK out of the program (Ctrl-Break on our systems)? If you do that, then (a) you can display the call stack to try and figure out what is going on; and (b) you can quit out of the program and regain control.

    Cheers,

    Brian

If LOGOUT doesn't work (it's likely that LISTU will show "logout pending"), you can use the -k command line option to kill a specific process. If that still does not work, killing the process with the Linux kill -15 or the Windows task manager may be necessary but this is highly dangerous because it gives no oportunity for the system to tidy up. System resources such as locks may be left behind. Also, if the killed process was not truly hung but was writing data, the file could be left with partial updates.

OpenQM periodically looks for dead processes and tidies up things such as the lock table. You can force an immediate scan for dead processes with

    qm -cleanup.
