When deciding on how/when to upgrade your Rocket DevOps environment to the latest version, please refer to the following resources:

Step 1: Check Compatibility

You can find the compatibility charts for all our products at Rocket Community > Documents > Rocket DevOps IBM i OS Release Compatibility.

Ensure the version you are upgrading to is supported by your IBM i OS version.

Step 2: Download the Upgrade Materials

You can download the latest software for upgrade from Rocket Community > Downloads >
> DevOps core for IBM i
> DevOps core for Enterprise
> DevOps portal

Step 3: Obtain Upgrade Documentation

The steps to upgrade to the latest Rocket DevOps version can be found within Rocket Community > Documents
> DevOps core for IBM i > Rocket DevOps core for IBM i Installation Guide > Upgrade RDOi
> DevOps core for Enterprise > Rocket DevOps core for Enterprise Installation and Upgrade Guide for IBM i Servers
> DevOps portal > Rocket DevOps portal Installation Guide

We strongly suggest that you read this information carefully before you start your upgrade.

Step 4: Confirm Special Upgrade Requirements

DevOps core for IBM i:

Per the section "Checking File Constraints Before Upgrade," run the constraint-checking program LMIVALCST well before and before your upgrade. This will help ensure troubleshooting of potential errors has taken place before your upgrade, and preferably during normal business hours.

If your source version is pre-8.3, you must first upgrade to LMi 8.3A. We do not recommend remaining on 8.3A for production activities.

If your source version is 8.2B specifically, you must review the special instructions for upgrading from LMi V8.2B in the Checking File Constraints section regarding the potential need for PTF180626. If applicable, this PTF would need to be applied before the upgrade from 8.2B.

DevOps core for Enterprise:

Upgrades from earlier Enterprise releases include complex database changes. We highly recommend you take advantage of the complimentary pre-upgrade verification run on a Rocket test server before upgrading from earlier versions. Please allow us 10 business days to complete the test.

A copy of the instructions for saving your database and sending it to us can be found on Rocket Community > Knowledge Base as follows:
- Enter Rocket Community and sign on > click on Knowledge Base > locate the following articles:
- 000021535 How To Save ALSCCTL & AFFTCTL on the IBM i for Aldon Security Server and LMe Upgrade Verification and/or Troubleshooting Database Issues
- 000016638 How To Create a Save File on the IBM i and FTP the Save File to a PC
- 000021529 How to Upload Large IBMi Save Files to the Rocket FTP Site

Please ensure you have opened a case with Technical Support for all associated upgrade activity/questions. Once you have uploaded your file to the FTP site per the previously mentioned KB Articles, please update your case to inform us while providing the exact file name.

DevOps core and Enterprise Integration:

To determine if you are utilizing the integration between RDOi and RDOe, you can check the results from your IBM i with the following query:
select * from AFFTCTL/CMSREG where rowvertyp=0

To determine your current version of RDOi, you can check the following data area from your RDOi host system:
DSPDTAARA ACMSLIB/ACMSVER

With this information, you can determine if the link between RDOi and RDOe is active, and you can also confirm if your version of RDOi is compatible with your version of RDOe. This information will help dictate if an RDOi/e upgrade must be performed simultaneously or at different times.

You can then check product compatibility documentation for all our products at Rocket Community > Documents > Rocket DevOps IBM i OS Release Compatibility.

Step 5: Obtain License Keys

License keys are based on a combination of software version, hardware serial number, and hardware model number. If this information changes, new permanent license validation codes will be needed.

5-A: Check Existing License Information:

RDOi
1. Sign on to the RDOi Host
2. ADDLIBLE ACMSLIB <enter>
3. ALDINSTALL <enter>
4. Option 5 against RDOi to display installation data
5. Position the cursor on the message at the bottom of the screen and Page Down through the messages to determine current licenses for all feature codes.

RDOe
1. Sign on to Security Server
2. Click on Manage Products and Instances
3. Click on RDOe instance
4. Click on License
5. Confirm license value information

5-B: Request for Permanent License Keys:

Permanent license key requests should be submitted via the form within the following link: DevOps Request Validation Code

After form submission, a new case will be populated in our system for processing. Approval from your Account Executive team may be required before providing new permanent licenses, which could take at least 24-48 hours.

5-C: Obtain Temporary 30-Day License Keys:

For immediate access to a license, you can self-generate temporary 30-day keys from the following link:
Open Rocket Community and login > click on the License Keys tab > click on License Key Generator and complete the form using DevOps product family.
