Hello there community, I'm installing iCluster, but the client asked me which ports we need to open for security purposes. The ones we have on the list are 4545,446,447,448.

Second question.- During the installation the system shows me this screen

(never seen in other installations)

Everything seems to work when the product is installed, but when we try to replicate it, it just never happens...

Do you have any idea or recommendation of what could be happening?

Hi Abraham,

Your ports are correct, 4545 is the default comms port between your nodes, and the other 3 are for DDM access.

I do not recognise that screen at all from an iCluster Base installation so not sure where it's coming from. Have you checked all of the system requirements for iCluster, all details are in the Installation guide (iCluster 9.2.0 requires O/S V7R4 or later_ and there are IBM PTFs to check. The Base install of iCluster is a RSTLICPGM so it is very straight-forward, have you applied the license keys? Maybe you can provide a little more detail about the steps you took to get where you are now.

Thanks,

Don Broadbridge

Hi Abraham,

You have the correct ports, 4545 is the default comms. port between your nodes, and the other 3 are for DDM access. I do not recognise that screen shot so  cannot comment on it. You say you have iCluster up and running but replication is not  happening - have you applied the license keys on both systems?

Have you checked the IBM i PTF requirements?

If you run a HAPNGTCP command from  the Primary to the Backup, does it show successful connectivity? And the same, from the Backup, does that command show connectivity?

Thanks,

Don Broadbridge

The following TCP/IP ports are required for iCluster and related functions:, you can also check the requirement from Rocket Software online documentation. https://docs.rocketsoftware.com/bundle/icluster_ig_921/page/uza1721028647642.html

Hello I am still trying to install rocket cluster 9.2.

We have connection between both environments but when it runs the node validation part it's unsuccessful.

Hi Abraham,

If the HAPNGTCP command doesn't provide connectivity confirmation from primary to backup and backup to primary, you will not be able to add the backup node (a simple PING command might work but it's not "Port-orientated"). There are dozens of steps in an installation, including pre-requisites, to thoroughly firefight this problem quite a lot more detail and cross-checking is required. Where are you in the Installation guide?

Thanks

Hi Abraham,

Please examine closely the response from Jasun Sun describing the ports used by iCluster.  The ports you identified for your client are for DRDA and the iCluster Listener Port (which you set in the service table entry you added on both nodes and you can confirm when the log from job DMCHATL is examined).  You can confirm the listener job is reachable from the opposite node by using the HAPNGTCP command mentioned by Don above.  HAPNGTCP is connecting using the port number you specify so you can confirm that the host is reachable on the communication port you assigned.  In addition there are communication ports that will be used to respond to the communication request.  Once iCluster is installed and initial configuration steps completed, you should at minimum see the SBS and the DMCHATL job active.

After you run a HAPNGTCP request successfully, you will have similar results listed.

After a single run of HAPNGTCP, you can see below the ports in use.  If possible, if would be easiest to allow all ports between hosts and instead filter by mac address or assigned IP address.  For restricted access some network engineers briefly open all ports and then observe the ports in use for their environment to allow replication to occur freely and the application configuration project to progress.

When adding a node, you will need to make a choice whether you will allow dynamically assigned ports to be used or if you will limit ports to a specific range.  Here is an example of the ports I selected after confirming these were available and estimating how many ports I will need.

Also note that Rocket offers both one on one Administrative Training and/or Professional Services which you can observe and learn to get the skills to easily configure and manage iCluster for your clients.
