i will have to upgrade a universe server and a unidata server in the coming year. i thought why are we running both. when i upgrade the unidata server should i convert it to universe. is it more work than doing the upgrade itself. if so how much more work.

Well, don’t know how it happened but somehow the ODBC configuration for one of customer accounts has been damaged and they want to restore it to what it was yesterday.  What files need to be restored to get this repaired?

It used to be the VSG, then the MDM, and I can’t find the MDM anywhere these days. What do y’all use for mapping Unidata tables to ODBC?

On out development server, we have several installs of uniface for different uses (devel, testing, ‘live’ etc.) Some of these I can tell apart in the “Programs and Features” because they are different versions or patches. Others I cannot. Having just uninstalled the wrong version in an attempt to fix another problem, the question is. Is there a trick to naming the installations inthe Programs and features MMC so we can tell them apart. The info gives us version and install date, but not install path, and I can’t see any sensible way to differentiate them. Iain

Currently in our version control system, we have exports of each component we generate in Uniface, which are then imported during check out and then exported during check in.  In our migration from 9.7 to 10.4, one of the things I would like to do is do a full export of everything from my 10.4 repository to put back into version control.Individual components are pretty easy, as we can name the component we want to export and pass that to $ude, since we know the name of the component from our version control system.  What I would like to be able to do is from within Uniface, list all of the components programmatically and then for each individual component, export each component to its own XML file for check in.  Is there a way to list all components or even all objects in the repository programmatically? 

To show records of a vision file we use paged-grids and the majority of our users are fine with that.There is one customer (and unfortunately our most important one) who wants a “standard scrollbar”.The answer that this is only doable when we know how many records are 100% does not convince him and he does not let it go.So we thought of a lazy-loading scenario.We load and show the first 100 records and when he drags the grid thumb all the way down to the end of the grid we try to load more records.The problem is that the grid does not give an event when reaching the last record.Does anyone have an idea how to solve this ?Or do you have a totally different approach ?

Is it possible to have a complete D3 integration in Rocket MVBasic for Vscode ?Actually, there’s only code integration for jbase and universe…and documentation is slighly different...

We are a rather large implementation of Universe 11.3.1 (originally created in the mid-80s as a PI install and migrated to PI Open to Universe over the years).   We have 3 application developers but do not have a traditional UV admin (we don’t modify the uvconfig parameters at all).  The system just seems to run itself.  I have read through Tech Specs & Release Notes but have not found alot of detail on how to or what to look out for.Does anyone have experience in going from 11 to 14?  Any advice or detailed check list?Thank you!

Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2022 11.0.0 failing install on windows server 2022. Visual studio community edition is installed, version 18.4.3 and “Workload for C++ Desktop Applications “ is installed. Hi!  I am using Cursor to code (more than just coding, Cursor excels in Agentic programming tasks, I find it better than VS Code).  Cursor is a fork of VS Code, but it does not use the official Microsoft Visual Studio Marketplace. Instead, it uses a community-driven registry called Open VSX. Rocket MV Basic extension is not listed as a valid extension, so I can’t install it from the Extensions tab.  Gemini tells me I have two alternatives to install the extension in Cursor:Option 1: Cursor allows you to import the extensions from VS Code. This option is not working for me. Option 2: Install it directly from a VSIX file, that should be downloadable from the Rocket MV Basic Extension on the VS Code Marketplace. But there is no link to download a .vsix file to install it manually.  So I’m stuck with the installation.  The best solution would be to add the extension to the Open VSX catalog, so it can be installed from the Extensions menu and updated automatically.  If not possible, can any

Hi All, hope all is well.Well, I never thought I would get back to COBOL, but during the watching of a video about AI and MS Access, my colleague briefly mentioned COBOL.   I thought cool, I will check COBOL out, since it has been a while since I developed with the language.  And I am glad I did!   Doing a Google Search on COBOL, I came across Rocket Software’s COBOL infographic.   Wow!  I was blown a way that COBOL was so widely used to this day.   Well, it has been decades since I programmed with COBOL.   My first job, was on a OS/390 Mainframe (nicknamed “Old Charlie”) during the Y2K effort.  Another job had me using MicroFocus COBOL for a Web Patient Application.Now today (decades later), I am getting back into COBOL and taking the first certification offered by Rocket Software..  I am almost done.   A few questions for some assistance.VS Code - How do you setup tasks to compile programs and related sub programs..  Yeah, I could do each one manually, but it would be more efficient

Our company is a very heavy user of AcuBench with thousands of projects. We also use VS Code for really test only code that still is in use in our system.  We are upgrading to Acu11 soon so I want to start playing with VS plug-in.  Is it as simple as just adding the plug-in to VS Code and opening a .pjt for a project?  Are there any required things to be installed on the machines that will be using it...for example does AcuBench have to be there or AcuGT? Thanks for any help as I get started on this journey to move from AcuBench to VS Code plug-in.

Hello I would like to compile cics pgms using personal edition but the cics copybooks are not there.  does rocket cobol personal edition allow me to compile cics pgms . i can see the db2 copy books but no cics.i can upload and recompile on z/os after i do my first test compile on vs cobol.thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi Folks,I have just finished reading my first book on Cobol Programming. I also finally got Visual Cobol installed in Visual Studio 2022 Community. I had to install and re-install Visual Cobol about a dozen times to get it installed properly.When I opened Visual Studio and went to Cobol it wanted me to install the license. I tried it a couple of times and it gave an error. Here is what happened:I clicked install license and it came up with an error. The error says unable to determine the status of the product license. ERROR DETAILS: Unable to obtain the requested license. Error 18: No license code is available for feature Solar Visual Studio 2010 on host1287.0.0.1.I think that this has been posted a few times, but when I don’t put such things in my posts, somebody always asks for it. I know many LE callable services are supported in the ED LE370.dll.Many of these use the LE CEEIGZCT copybook but I cannot find it in ED.Is it available or do we need to create/copy it from elsewhere?

Does anyone have an accurate handle on how and when AUTOLOGOUT triggers?   The manual says….Use AUTOLOGOUT to enable or disable automatic logout. With AUTOLOGOUT enabled, UniVerse logs you out automatically if you have not pressed a key within a specified time.But I don’t believe that is accurate.   We’ve had some confusing results in testing.   A process on a loop with periodic TIMEDATE() displays (output only) does not trigger.  Similarly a loop process with no screen output but just a SLEEP X also does not trigger even in between loops before it goes back to sleep.So, we are trying to understand the actual nuts and bolts of how/when it triggers.   Thanks for any help.Steve DouglasVP Systems AdminMBMS, LLC
