BackgroundCurrently, I have added and enabled a VSAM External Security Manager (ESM) to my Rocket Enterprise Server. I added the VSAM ESM to the security managers list at the ES Administration and Directory Server security domain levels. I can sign on using the users I manage at the ES Administration level through the VSAM ESM’s verification and authentication. The IssueAlthough I have added the same VSAM ESM I’m using at the ES Administration and Directory Server security domains to the region’s security facility configuration, I cannot start the region using any of the default users provided in the default VSAM ESM. In the region, I navigated to [General → Verify]. On the Verify page, I clicked the [Run] button and got some more insight. It seems it is successfully loading the ESM configuration “VSAM ESM”, but it has failed to initialize the SAF manager due to reason 16. The error message states, “Safmgr initialization failed, reason = 16”. I can’t start the region using the VSAM ESM

Running Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition and Visual Cobol Personal Edition. Fired up Visual Studio and tried to open one of my solutions. Received  the attached errors. All the programs in Solution Explorer were marked ‘Incompatible’.  I’m unsure as to whether this means my license has expired or whether it is a different problem.Please see attached.TIA

Universe 11.3.1,  AIX 7200-05-11-2546We noticed when comparing very large numbers they don’t correctly evaluate to not equal. Specifically, if two variables are over 17 characters in length and they don’t match correctly. See the below sample program and its output. The (X NE Y) does not evaluate to true until the length of the strings are 17 characters even though the variables are never equal. Windows Server 2008 R2 StandardService Pack 1LicensesNo limit, local hostedCobol Server (Production)the license server runs, and the runtime refers to that server for the license. Can i revoke the license on the llicense server, then revoke the production server license, and reinstall with the same number on the runtime server, except not referring to the license server, but local? Local is how our staging runtime server is set up. Just want to put that out there, in case there are other issues.

Hi all, For an analysis I’m exploring the ESCWA portal. I got it set up using the Visual Cobol installation.It comes with a trial key. All looks great. I can program COBOl and run the applications. Greate.But then, when I try to create a region in the dashboard, I’m prompted that “I have no valid license”.When I check the license manager that came with the installation, it shows I have 500 more days left.So the “portal” doesn’t consider this license.I then thought “perhaps I need to get a trial license for the server seperate”, but it’s impossible to find. Support also isn’t being helpful.I could find this link to “request a trial version” but it’s not working properly, hence I don’t know they receive 30 requests by now or it never went through: http://cabs.microfocus.com/products/enterprise-suite/enterprise-server/trial in the portals and confsing different dashboards, i could find something like “download trials”  but it never shows the enterpreise server. Is there any way to set up

A recent client asked how we produce different type documents within in the Universe/Unidata database. There is no Rocket Software product that does that I am aware of. Using a Eclipse open-source product called BIRT with a Universe/Unidata ODA interface you can produce all of those types and more. So, am I right about no Rocket Software product that creates reports in different formats?

I can’t remember the initiation command to use instead of “uv” to enable multiple concurrent sessions.  Can someone help me?Thanks, Dale

I read through the documentation and compared it to what I am seeing on the system. There is a DEVICES record called OKIDATA.  This has control character definitions and such. In the USER-COLD-START, there is a STARTPTR 0, 0, 0, S13 & STARTPTR 1, 1, 0, S10 and other for the rest. There is also an ASSIGNFQ 1,OKIDATA (C If I do LISTPTR I have several printers, 0, 1, 2, 6 and 7 and all say serial and DEV or PROCESS # is 13, 10, 11, 14 and 9.On the server itself, the OKIDATA printer name is OKI-C711-DCA9AC. Before you get carried away I don’t mean you can do any coding in uniface.  In fact, you can ask about the $hits and it may suggest you have a dodgy stomach. 🤣 What I did which is something I have found needed in many companies but with no easy solution.  How do I get an ERM for my project.  The problem is it either takes too long and is unusable, or it simply can not be done as we hold relationships in uniface and not in the database. So, I tasked it to AI.I gave AI the DICT data for fields, tables (± 1000 of tables), subtypes, relations, keys… so 5 files of data. I thien started chatting with AI. The result is a stand alone .html file.  You can zoom, wildcard the tables, see the relationships, correct any overlaps.  For more features I would suggest chatting a bit more. The source code is easily readable but seems to consist of lots of drawing lines.  You probably would not want to modify the code manually. So, the easy bit is to give it the data, then you need to chat until it give

Hi,When the source file (CBL) and any ancillary copybooks have been saved with an encoding of UTF-8 BOM then I am getting some strange behaviour with characters such as high-values when moving a PIC X group into a string and then moving it back out into a PIC X group.My question is whether there a compiler option or some other mechanism whereby the source files are automatically converted to ASCII or UTF-8 at the time of building the dll?Thanks

Our IT services have employed a company to test vulnerabilities. They are reporting an out of date Oracle Java version on our machine, which is patched to patch 10.4.3.042What do people know about updating the Java version independently? Is it ‘safe’ to do so? Or will bits of the uniface environment stop working?  Where is the installation folder to overwrite, or is that automatic?  (afterthought) WHat happens when we patch uniface, does it reset, or is it smart enough to not update a later version? Regards, Iain

We have a number of tables in Microsoft SQL that are defined as uniqueidentifier. When accessing this column type the OpenESQL interface, using ODBC, returned this column type as a char(36).Modifying our native code to .NET and using ADO it appears that this column type is returned as a 16 character binary column type.My question is whether you are aware of this and whether there are other column data types that behave differently when using ADO as opposed to ODBC? Peter
