Rocket® D3® and jBASE®

D3 Windows 10.4.0.3 was released yesterday. Not much added to 10.4.0.2, just a fix for VB6/ODBC re-connection issue. The big thing is that this release is certified on Windows 2025. This release can be downloaded from the Rocket Community Portal (RCP) as usual, but in a very short time (today Tuesday 9/22?) will also be downloadable from Rocket Business Connect (RBC).

I have put together a JAVA/DataBasic  program for D3 that works with https://messagemedia.com Bulk SMS texting API if anyone's interested goto http://www.custlang.nz -> utilities->SMS for notes and to try it, see also other things such as a Natural Language Demo. ------------------------------Robert DavenportProgrammerCustom Language SolutionsAuckland NZ------------------------------

We had a D3 customer who did a Windows update which updated the version of NTDLL.DLL (that's Windows' .dll not D3's). After that his 10.4.0.2 VME crashed five times in one day. After some investigation we determined that there was some heap corruption going on in D3 that was not detected by the earlier version of the NTDLL.DLL (10.0.20348.5020) but was detected by the updated version (10.0.20348.5139). When this heap corruption was detected, NTDLL killed the D3 VME. The customer then rolled back the NTDLL.DLL version and the VME crashes have ceased. In this particular instance, the NTDLL.DLL was updated by Windows update (Microsoft release) KB5087545 from May 12th, 2026, but that will change from update to update. We at Rocket are looking into this, but meanwhile please be aware. We have not had this reported by anyone else other than this one customer, but that doesn't guarantee that it wouldn't happen to anyone else. We suggest that you NOT apply any Windows updates that contain the u

helloI am trying to launch an Accuterm script, in my case cosmo.atsc from my basic code (mvBase). According to the online help I can use the following code, except I replace the myscriptfile with cosmo.  The script is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Atwin71I can run the script from the Accuterm Script Editor with out a problem, and if does what I want.  However when I run it in basic I get the an Accuterm script error, see below.  Can anyone offer any advice as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks.  EQU ESC TO CHAR(27), STX TO CHAR(2), CR TO CHAR(13) FILENAME = 'myscriptfile.atsc' SCRIPT = 'Chain "':FILENAME:'"' PRINT ESC:STX:'P':SCRIPT:CR:

Is there a Telnet setting in Microsoft’s standard Telnet program that will recognize the column and row positioning from a D3 basic program, along with clear screen “PRINT @(-1)” etc.It all works with ACCUTERM emulating a Viewpoint terminal, but I have not been able to find a setting that works with Microsoft’s Telnet.  Is address locations possible in standard Telnet?

In D3 using Telnet how do you send a <Ctrl>-Break when your keyboard doesn’t have a Break key?Using ACCUTERM how do you send a <Ctrl>-break when your keyboard doesn’t have a break key?

How can you call up NOTEPAD from within D3 on a Windows 11 machine?I tried…EXECUTE “!NOTEPAD”The program seems to try to shell out, but it doesn’t call up notepad.I’m coming from mvBase and have shelled out to NOTEPAD from there extensively.

10.4 is D3 Windows FSI architecture over Linux, not Windows. The main differences:1) Almost everything is stored in the local file system (FSI = File System Interface) and not the VME blob. A good consequence of this is that you no longer have to allocate a disk partition or logical volume for D3. In the Linux file system there would be a /usr/lib/pick/database directory with subdirectories for each D3 account, each containing subdirectories for each dict-level file in that account, each containing subdirectories for each data-level in that file, each containing the D3 data file itself in main and overflow files with indexes in separate files (.D3C, .D3T, .D3O, .D3X). The data structure within those files is extremely similar to the 10.3 VME blob where you have frames containing your data hashed to the appropriate frame.2) D3 is a single multi-threaded Linux process instead of each PIB being a separate Linux process. This actually makes it faster, but introduces some problems, like mem

Need an applicacion with command line ability to send text messages

I read through the documentation and compared it to what I am seeing on the system. There is a DEVICES record called OKIDATA.  This has control character definitions and such. In the USER-COLD-START, there is a STARTPTR 0, 0, 0, S13 & STARTPTR 1, 1, 0, S10 and other for the rest. There is also an ASSIGNFQ 1,OKIDATA (C If I do LISTPTR I have several printers, 0, 1, 2, 6 and 7 and all say serial and DEV or PROCESS # is 13, 10, 11, 14 and 9.On the server itself, the OKIDATA printer name is OKI-C711-DCA9AC. How is the OKI-C711-DCA9AC assign to the OKIDATA?  I am thinking it is something to do with a configuration somewhere for the Dev or Process, but not sure what.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.------------------------------Troy DittbernerPresidentNorthstar Data Services IncBrooklyn Park VA US------------------------------

Hello,I am using the MVSP utility from D3 version 9.2. This is the second time that I have encountered a new error message. What could be causing this? Could it be related to the VME workspace? It is currently at 55%. Could it be linked to the server memory, which did not appear to be saturated? After this message appeared, the D3 database stopped responding, and it was no longer possible to connect via Telnet.Message received from the TIGR.MVSP program:System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system did not have enough buffer space or because the queue was full 127.0.0.1:9000 at System.Net.Sockets.TcpClient..ctor(String hostname, Int32 port) at TIGR.MVSP.Pick.ConnectCore(String hostName, Int32 hostPort, String userName, String userPassword, Boolean sslConnect, Boolean licEnterprise)Have other D3 users encountered this type of issue? Any information that could help guide me toward resolving this problem would be appreci

I am looking for a way to differentiate a record create (or insert if you will) from a record update within a trigger.  I am not seeing anything that would allow me to do this easily.   My use case is to send out an event on a record create and a different event on a record update.  I want this to happen only after a successful write.I can see on a pre-write how I could see if the record exists already or not, but then if the write should fail, I would have sent an event for the create or the update that is out of sync with the state of my database.  I would like to avoid having 2 events sent on a create (one pre-write detecting a create and one post-write for an update). It would seem to be an important piece of metadata that should be available to the trigger as to whether or not this record had to (or will) be created by the write.Has anyone else already come up with an elegant solution or can point out the obvious thing I am missing?

Due to some security issues, the D3 installers' ability to automatically download dependency packages is no longer available. This makes it necessary to load dependencies manually before running D3_setup. Here are the instructions:First, disable D3_setup's attempt to load dependencies:mkdir /usr/lib/pick  ( if /usr/lib/pick doesn't already exist )cat /dev/null > /usr/lib/pick/d3depends  ( if the depends file doesn't already exist )==================================Manually loading dependencies on Linux versions 7 and lower:D3 Linux versions 9.2 and lower:yum install dialog.i686yum install glibc-develyum install ncurses-develyum install libgcc.i686yum install net-toolsyum install gccyum install pam-develyum install pam-devel.i686yum install glibc-develyum install glibc-devel.i686yum install libuuidyum install openssl098eyum install hal-libsyum install libidnD3 Linux versions 10.1 through 10.3.2:yum install dialogyum install dialog.x86_64yum install gccyum install libcurl-develyum ins

We have been trying to standardise our jbase environment across accounts.  But we are experiencing a problem with loosing the C:\jbase\6.2.1.1\bin assignment and therefore can not use the base jbase programs like LIST.THIS IS QUITE A PROBLEM !WE have placed the statement in the OBJECTLIST in the system environment variables for the administrator and the account login. We have placed in into the OBJECTLIST in every remote.cmd we can find.when we restart the services we then log in on the server as administrator or as the account and start a jshell.Things look good and the OBJECTLIST is as we expect when we use jdiag - all great BUT as soon as we login to a real jbase Account we loose the OBJECTLIST for c:\jase\6.2.1.1 and are simply lefty with the local account BIN and LIB can anyone help please !at the moment it would appear that dialing in as a dumb screen on telnet works ok via the remote.cmdMany thanks  :)

We have a client that just installed Accuterm 8.0.1015 on both a Windows 11 23H2 OS and a Windows 11 24H2 OS and it appears they have done so correctly. However, when they open Accuterm the icons below the menu are simply showing up as empty blocks but the tooltips do work. Is this a setting or a compatibility issue.

The proper way to start D3 Linux 10.4 is: systemctl start d3svc We have run into instances where someone is starting is using D3_setup start, which starts it in foreground, not as a service. OK for debugging, but the problem is that if that thread disconnects or is killed, the entire VME crashes. This is much like starting D3 Windows from a command prompt using d3vme /debug, then closing the command prompt.  So please use systemctl instead of other methods.

There is a bug in the MVS Toolkit (or at least we believe it's the Toolkit) where if you use an OpenSSL version higher than 1.1 to generate a .PKCS12 document, it appears to create just fine, but when you install that in the Toolkit, HTTPS does not work. Rocket is working on this problem, but so far we have not been able to identify what or where the problem is. Meanwhile, I suggest that you use OpenSSL v1.1 or lower to generate your keys, certificate requests and certificates. While we're on the subject, I've worked some cases recently where people generated a private key that was not an RSA private key. It needs to be an RSA private key or the world won't like it. If you have any questions about any of this, or if you want some help with certificate generation (or anything else with the Toolkit for that matter), please open a support ticket and I'll jump on it right away and give you a hand.

Hi there, Hope you can help :) We are currently running a (very) old version of jBase 3.4 and are experimenting on a test server to migrate our accounts to jBase 6.2.  Could anyone point me in the direction of some documentation for what we would have to do to upgrade our accounts assuming we have jBase 6.2 installed and working on the new server? Many thanks Mike Lankester

Ok,  chasing my tail for a bit on this one.   RC = 5061.10 LL = 5061.1 IF LL = RC THEN CRT "WHY, THEY ARE NOT EQUAL" END They don't match!  why does it drop the 0 on the compare?  What is the correct way to fix. ------------------------------Craig CurtisSystem ProgrammerSevier Valley School DistrictRichfield UT US------------------------------

All,Currently we are extracting out JSON data character by character and saving the data in d3.  That works fine for small records.  But, now we are looking at converting a record with the size of 3,147,865.  Character by character manipulation of a string is very cumbersome.   Is there a JSON to d3 program out there that could handle this or does someone have any ideas?Ted Hurlbut

As I sit here waiting for another Windows update for our MVS Toolkit, I wonder again, and I do mean again, why there is no Linux version for this part of the tool. We stopped using MS Windows over 20 years ago, but had to go and get  a licence and set up vm server to run Windows so that we could interface with the web. Where have all our problems been? On the Windows server. Now if there was a Linux version available, we may have had to set up a vm anyway, but it would have worked a lot better and saved a lot of technician time.
