File Sizing Analysis

ANTHONY PONTECORVO

We are running Universe 11.3.1 on AIX 7.2.  I have 9 production accounts, mirrored on development and test LPARs.  That all adds up to thousands of files.

Formerly we used Fast c/s to monitor the entire system and stay on top of undersized files to prevent application slowdowns.  Unfortunately, it is no longer supported.

Does anyone know of a similar application or product we could use?  If so, could you speak to the efficiency, ease of use etc.?

Thanks in advance.

Check out Paradigm System’s Mercury Flash admin tool.

Rocket does not recommend a specific third-party file sizing tool.

Starting with UniVerse 11.3.5, ACCOUNT.FILE.STATS includes changes that show the percentage of groups consumed above 100% (see Example 2). We recommend using those results to prioritize file sizing, working through the files in the order listed.

In theory, these changes could be applied manually to UniVerse 11.3.1. If you would like to pursue that option, please open a support case so the team can discuss it with you.
