Good afternoon (morning/evening as the case may be).  I just upgraded our LMi from 8.5A to RDOI 10.2 on the IBMi.

As far as I understand, this is just the beginning of modernizing.  I think we would like to get into VS Code, GIT, and other more modern practices so that we can find people to replace those of us meandering toward retirement.

So my question is - what would be the next step?  I have downloaded VS Code for i, although my knowledge is very rudimentary. I'm reading and starting to play with the GITHUB/Desktop application, although I'm not sure if that is what we want/need to use.

Is there other stuff from Rocket I should download to move forward?

Thanks for any / all input.

Hi Kevin,

Apologies for the delay in responding. I work in Customer Solutions Engineering, on the Delivery of services for DevOps (RDO formerly LMi/e) projects.  Yesterday, 27 July, we put out a GA on RDOp 10.2.2, which has many new super features, including further integration with VS Code, Git (currently GitLab but to be expanded) , Jenkins and Jira.  This latest version of RDOp requires the newly available PTF03 for RDOi (for download on our portal also yesterday).  We have developed a VS Code extension (downloadable or now available in VS Code itself, search in Extensions for Rocket DevOps) to work with either RDOi or Git.

This is a lot of information, so to fully answer your "what next" question, I believe one of our Rocket SEs could provide you with all the answers to assist you with progressing into modern practices like DevOps, CI/CD, using our products. I will forward your request and they will reach out to you.

Thanks for your enquiry.

Regards,

Don Broadbridge

Thanks Don, I downloaded the new VS extension, and it looks promising. Maybe this is the year I get off PDM/Green Screen!
I'll provide an update on my progress once I get through the user guide and have an idea of what I'm doing.
