Considering Configuration Audit to be one of the four main functions of Configuration Management , I personally feel that the Audit feature, if properly explored and used with Changeman ZMF, can go a long way in implementing Physical Configuration Audit.
As far as the Functional Configuration Audit is concerned, it is more to make sure that a functional system verification has been completed, which can be implemented by slightly customizing approvals, to make sure that Testing at the appropriate level has been completed.
The audit report can be used to report on the release and prepare release notes too about the mainframe configuration going live.
Many shops just use audit as a formality to initiate freeze. Are we using audit to its full potential?
