We are currently upgrading all our ZMF applications to R5.6. Ideally we would like to migrate 1application, or a number of small applications, at a time. The conversion procedures suggest a 'big bang' approach.
We are a little concerned as some of the bigger applications have a lot of customization.
Can anyone suggest a method of migrating individual applications.

We have planned to upgrade to ZMF 5.6.1 by October, and we're actually in 5.3.5. Upgrading from this version seems to be quite easy, according to the migration guide, they say these 2 versions are compatible both ways.
Which version are you using now ? And are you upgrading to 5.6.0 or 5.6.1 ?
I am at the very begining of the upgrade, so not much suggestions for you.
But I would appreciate to have some from you !

We are upgrading from 5.3 and 4.1.6!! and this is the one with all the customization. We will have applied the upgrades to 5.6.1 by the time we go live.

I am also upgrading from 5.3.1 to 5.6.1.
I have hit two pitfalls so far. The first is the DB2 migration aspect (if you have that component) is not as straight forward as you would like. The second is that if you are not running ZOS 1.7 then the upgrade will fail as there are issues with the ZOS Binder that are not resolved until version 1.7 is installed.
One last comment, as far as I can determine it is a big bang approach I am afraid.

Dave -- There may be some options = Sounds like you have a complex situation with two different ChangeMan started tasks -- one on 4.1.6 and the other on 5.3 -- I am going to assume you plan to merge the two implementations -- if that is the case let me know -- it might be worth your while to have a discussion with Professional Services -- Off the top of my head I would upgrade each data base seperately and establish a new started task that you migrate to. You can probably migrate history and application by application when they are on the same release. You should be able to use a combination of XML services and possibly some utilities to make this happen. PS has the skill set -- Even if you don't want them to come in and do it they may be willing to sit down and help you design the process and solution. Let me know what your thinking is going to be -- most upgrades are big bang and go with out a hitch -- this issue you seem to have is multiple started tasks.
