Rocket® D3® – Looking to the Future

Rocket MultiValue (MV) recognizes the essential role D3 plays in supporting the success of our customers, and we deeply value the trust and loyalty of those who use it. We are committed to supporting D3 with ongoing updates and fixes as part of the MultiValue product family of application servers.

D3 in 2024

In March 2024, we released D3 10.4 for Windows, delivering the value and supportability that D3 customers expect. With D3 10.4, Rocket MV engineers refactored the underlying code enabling them to align the Windows and Linux platforms and facilitate seamless releases in the future.  D3 10.4 also includes upgrades to Python, along with over 25 enhancements and bug fixes, further improving performance and stability.

D3 in 2025

In 2025, we’ll make additional enhancements to D3 10.4 to further align the Windows and Linux platforms making it easier for Rocket to release and maintain D3.  Additionally, we will include high-value, customer requested enhancements including an update to Python version 3.13.

D3 in 2026 and beyond

Future D3 10.4 releases will focus on delivering security compliance features and compatibility with third party tools such as Python and OpenSSL, along with addressing various enhancements and bug fixes.

D3 Compatibility Across Data Servers

Some of our D3 customers have asked about leveraging the features and functionality in jBASE or UniVerse.  To address this, we have added D3 compatibility features to jBASE 6.2.1, offering more choice and flexibility for customers who want to modernize.  This optional migration path to jBASE includes self-guided documentation, a new license package in RBC, and further key changes to the codebase, making the transition from D3 to jBASE smoother and more seamless.

In addition, we are also exploring D3 compatibility with UniVerse to provide more options for our D3 customers.

D3 Version Support

With the release of D3 10.4, many customers have inquired about the future of D3 10.3 and earlier versions.  To allow the D3 development team to focus on D3 10.4, the current generally available version of D3, we will continue to support D3 10.3 and earlier versions according to the product lifecycle.  However, we will not be enhancing these versions.  Additionally, we will limit hotfixes to severity issues.  We'll address all other fixes in version 10.4, meaning customers will need to upgrade to 10.4 to take advantage of these updates.

Our team is eager to assist you with any questions or support.  If you are currently on maintenance, you can order Rocket D3 v10.4 for Windows or Linux on Rocket Business Connect (RBC) and then download from our Community Portal.  If you do not have an active maintenance contract, please contact our sales team to get started!

Rocket MultiValue maintains a standard Product Lifecycle policy.  To view the lifecycle for your version of D3 and related tools, review the lifecycle dates and statuses on the Product Availability Matrix (PAM).

"making the transition from D3 to jBASE smoother and more seamless."

Why would I want to do that ?

Rocket really needs a feature matrix for all their MVDBMS products. For anyone thinking of a new deployment there is no indication anywhere of why you'd choose one flavor over another.
