Problem:

One of the properties of an individual Server (within Enterprise Server) is the number of "Requested Licenses".  This is the number of ES licenses that will be allocated initially, for the use of that one Server, from the total pool of ES licenses as shown in AppTrack and/or eslmfgetpv.  This property can be changed in the Enterprise Server Administration web interface, on the Server > General tab.

But changing the number of Requested Licenses on the Server > General tab, does not seem to have an effect.  For example if the number is changed from 1 to 2, and then a person clicks Apply, then goes back to the main page showing all servers, the number of allocated licenses shown for the server in question remains 1 and does not immediately go up to 2.  Experimentation has shown that the number can be made to go up to 2, by starting extra SEPs for the server in question.  Why does the number not go up immediately?

Resolution:

The explanation is that there are two separate places to configure the number of SEPs and the number of licenses for a particular Server:  on the Server > Control tab, and on the Server > General tab.

Changes made on the Server > Control tab are immediate, whereas changes made on the Server > General tab affect the state in which the server will start, next time it is started.

If you make changes on the Server > General tab, then click "Apply", the changes will affect how the server will be started or initiated next time.  To make immediate changes, use the Server > Control tab.
