I have next to no knowledge about Mainframe access or CICS so I apologize if this question is elementary in nature.

We have a command that pulls up around 60 pages of data, I would like to be able to somehow get this data into Excel.

I've done basic screen captures, however this is a manual process & not ideal.  In a perfect world, I'd hit a keyboard shortcut and it would create an Excel file in a predetermined folder with all 60 pages of text.

I read about ODBC connections but wasn't able to figure out how to get that set up.

If we could get this set up, it would benefit our company greatly in time and accuracy of processing.

As it is now, we pull up one screen with a list of codes, and search in the 60 pages of codes on the particular record to see if they're present or not.

Thanks for any guidance,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I don't know which Rumba version you are using. With Rumba 9.51 you can use multiple ways to do what you need:
1. By using Plus Grid collector you can easily get the 60 pages into the grid and with the table control you can export the data into Excel
2. By using VBA from inside Rumba you can have a VBA macro going over the pages extract the data and with Excel automation you can insert the data into cells
3. From Excel sheet using VBA you can open up new Rumba or use existing running instance and using Rumba automation you can navigate your screen while collecting the data and inserting into your Excel cells

Hope this helps
Adi

Adi,

My apologies, I forgot to post that. We're using Rumba 9.1.

I don't recall seeing Plus Grid collector in our version, is it only available on 9.51?

Do you have any guides or details on #2 or #3? Programming guides or similar? I'm fairly familiar with Excel/VBA, but wouldn't know where to begin writing VBA from inside Rumba.

Thanks for the help,
Steve

Steve,
Rumba 9.1 does not have the VBA feature it is newly feature introduced in 9.5
You can download the latest Rumba GA 9.5 and apply SP1(which is 9.51)
www.microfocus.com/.../
I will send you the SP1 as well as the VBA eval once you are done with the 9.5 installation

In general there is a VBA inside rumba so if you are familiar with it you will swim easily
for example:
Set XLApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
XLApp.Visible = True
XLApp.Workbooks.Open FileName:="c:\\\\tmp\\\\TELE_DATA.xlsx"
session.Wait "0:1"
Set MYBook = XLApp.Workbooks("TELE_DATA.xlsx")
Set XLSheet = MYBook.Worksheets("TELE_DATA")
Set Phones = XLSheet.Range("A2:A4")
Set Durations = XLSheet.Range("B2:B4")
index = 1

Set Duration = Durations.cells(index, 1)
' Calc total duration from Rumba screen using me.getScreenText
' String GetScreenText(Integer Row, Integer Column, Integer Length)
duration.value = total
Thanks

Adi
