I’m trying to find out what is required to implement Mobius View.  We currently use Document Direct.  Is a server required to use Mobius View?  If so, is that Mobius Server or is Mobius Server another “product”?  Not sure if they’re related.

Good afternoon.  The jump from DocumentDirect (DDR) to the web version of Mobius View is a good direction.  The first thing you need to know is what version of MobiusView will work with the Mobius Server/repository that you are using today.  Can you share with us what versions and platform you are running Mobius Server on today and where you are storing your reports?  This will allow us to recommend the best MobiusView version and provide more specifics on system requirements.

We’re not currently running Mobius Server.  We have a Dell/EMC RX500 ECS Device(s) for archived reports/docs.

I believe Mobius View is a replacement for Document Direct, but is it also a replacement for View Direct?

You are correct MobiusView is a replacement for DocumentDirect windows viewing client.    The latest versions of MobiusView is more tightly integrated with MobiusServer, which is the replacement for ViewDirect .  Here is the support matrix for the 12.5 version of Mobius, which includes the system requirements for both MobiusView and Mobius Server.

Let me know if you still have further questions after reviewing the support matrix.

As I’m not that familiar with DocumentDirect or ViewDirect, what’s the difference between the two.  Meaning what are each used for?  Just trying to determine if we really need MobiusView and Mobius Server.  If it’s determined we need both, can they both reside on the same server?

Thx

If you are running DocumentDirect thick client you should probably upgrade. Mobius View is a web based viewing client as opposed to a desktop application.  DocumentDirect has been out of support for a few years. Feel free to email me if you want to review options and upgrade paths. rohlund@rocketsoftware.com

I found out that another group has Mobius View, but they’re basically using it for APIs.  They make API calls to view reports/docs and only use Mobius View for admin purposes.  What’s the difference and why would that be necessary?

Thanks

Russell Davis

@sguynes1  Mobius View has an incredibly robust and built-out API. So instead of using the default viewer, we provide the API’s to enable customers to build out their own platform to use the features in different ways.

Mobius View has a backend admin page that is used to setup the GUI connections, as well as security, ingestion, and several other features.

So we really do not need to give many users access to Mobius View to view reports/docs, we allow them to use the APIs however they wish?  Sorry for the “dumb” questions, just trying to understand so that we can get the “right” environment setup.  Thx

Russell Davis

@sguynes1
The only “dumb” question is the one not asked.
Generally, the API’s are for you, the admins/developers, to use to build an interface to interact with the database.
Your users could either use this custom-built interface or the default viewer from within MobiusView.
This is just one of many possible ways to license, set up, and configure Mobius View.
We have teams of folks dedicated to talking with you more in-depth, to discover exactly how you use Mobius today, plan for new versions and upgrade paths, as well as provide insights into best practices and future versions. Let me know if you would like to chat more, and I can give you some contact information.
