Hello,

Currently I have updated python 3.12 through Rocket Open AppDev for Z (free solution). One of my users want urllib3 2.3.0. How can I install urllib3 2.3.0 separately on z/OS 3.1.

Thank you.

Hi Raju,

You can install the latest urllib3 in a separate virtual environment using venv+pip:

 python -m venv /path/to/venvs/ul3
 source /path/to/venvs/ul3/bin/activate
 pip install urllib3

Then ask a user to update his LIBPATH with /path/to/venvs/ul3/lib path for usage.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander,

Received this message while trying to install urllib3.

(gzip_env) bash-5.2$ conda install --offline urllib3-2.3.0-pyhd8ed1ab_0.conda

Please make sure python is installed in /products/minicond/envs/gzip_env

I have Python installed under /products/minicond. I was able to install under /products/minicond but I want to install under different environment like you mention.

I have installed curl and gzip under /products/minicond/envs/gzip_env. I want to install urllib3, openpyxl and pyzfile under /products/minicond/envs/gzip_env.

Thanks.

Hi Raju,

We don't provide the python package separately it's only in the base environment for the free version. So I don't know how to install urllib3 with conda in an environment other than the base.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alexander,

I understand.

I believe zoss-app under the anaconda site is from Rocket Software. I don't see urllib3, openpyxl and pyzfile under zoss-app. Can I download from conda-forge ?

Thank you.

Hi Raju,

Using packages from conda-forge is not forbidden, as it is a community-led channel. However, there is no guarantee that the packages will work correctly on z/OS.

Thanks,
Alex
