This problem is happening to many members of my college classes, and is impacting their ability to complete their assignments, since they cannot get the Visual Cobol PE registration completed, and get the software installed on their instance of Visual Studio 2019.  This has been working recently, since some students and myself managed to get this to work earlier in January.  It seems like this started happening some time this week or some time last week, based on the problems reported to faculty by the students.

Have sent several messages via website contact us page, but have yet to get any replies, or any feedback about when it might be fixed.  A student told me they were told by someone at Micro Focus that the Micro Focus IT group was aware of this problem, but had not heard back from them yet.  Any update would be helpful.

Hi, we are aware of the issue and it's been reported to our IT team. I'll reply here when it's addressed.

Regrds,

Regrds,

I appreciate the update.  This free trial registration problem means my students are being impacted this week due to their inability to complete their first COBOL assignment that is due this week.  Will this problem be resolved today, or in a few days, or in several days, or in a week, since I need to know if we need to begin determining contingency plans for student deadlines, and begin to handle any impact on the semester schedule going forward.  I understand it is hard to provide time estimates for resolutions to problems, but any information, or estimates, would help us plan what to do while waiting for this problem to be addressed.  I like MicroFocus  Visual COBOL in Visual Studio 2019, but should we be looking for alternate COBOL solutions from other vendors if this problem is going to take a long time to resolve.

I have reports from a few of my students that they are getting this error during registration, and it is different from the one in the earlier posting.

Error: Server was unable to process request. ---> 1. Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication.

It seems like there may be two problems being reported.  No way to know if they have the same root cause.

Several of my students have started looking for an alternative COBOL IDE solution to use in my classes, but no idea if they have found one yet.

Gregory,  I took the liberty of looking up the OLEDB / SSPI error message, this link has quite a bit of info and infers the issue is with MS SQL Server.  There is a workaround near the bottom of the lengthy discussion.  However, it's probably best to wait for Micro Focus official support.  (I am not affiliated with Micro Focus, I'm just another user.)

I cannot start the download, it redirects me to another page and it closes, they have given me a license and it is impossible, what should I do? since the administrators do not answer me. It is not a guarantee that once the service is paid it will work.

Hi Aida,

Disclaimer: I'm not with Micro Focus but merely a user.

I also had several obstacles that were solved in ultimately getting VS/VC operational.

What is the complete sequence of events leading up to your current issue, and what is the current state of things?

hello, thanks for contacting me
I requested the vcvs 2019 from microfocus, and after a day they sent me the page from where to download.
The issue is that the links don't work, I had to download them from the [inspeccionar] page (picture 3). But I still have problems because although I have Visual Studio 2019 installed, it does not work for me. And I really don't know what else to do. I attached the images for better understanding
thanks

What am I doing wrong?, and in any case for that version that trial microfocus gives me, what is the version number of Visual studio 2019 that I should install?

Aida,

You might not be doing anything wrong.

I installed Visual Studio and Visual Cobol on a vintage Dell desktop with Windows 10.

The first step is to download the installers for Visual Studio and Visual Cobol.  Micro Focus provides both of these, since Visual Studio has to be a custom version from Micro Focus that is designed to work with Visual Cobol.

See if you have two files in your download directory similar to these:

Numbers on the left are the filesize. The first is the Visual Studio installer, the second is Visual Cobol for Visual Studio.

The filenames and sizes might vary a bit:

1,467,072            vs_professional__eca5489e.03d8.475d.9151.4a1b56d72833.exe

464,332,768        vcvs2019_60.exe

If you don't have files like these on your machine, go through the download steps again.  Once they are downloaded, run the Visual Studio installer first.

When it is done, then run the Visual Cobol installer.

If no success, then post another request for help from Micro Focus support.
