  • 1.  Memory Size for Linux D3 (Ver 7.4)

    Hi all

Just your thoughts on how much memory should be allocated to a system with < 20 users? (NO Flash basic - Linux D3 (Ver 7.4))

The users are complaining that the system is "slow" with 2.62144 TB. (yes you read correctly 2.62144 Terra Bytes) !

In my opinion, this is FAR TOO much - and should be reduced to say 16 GB otherwise there is the chance of (per manual) "High values can result in poor performance of other UNIX processes due to inadequate remaining memory."

    What say you?

What does the "core" statement look like in the /usr/lib/pick/pick0 file? D3 7.4 is 32-bit, so the memory maximum would be 3.5GB on a 64-bit Linux O/S and less than that ( 2.5GB? ) on a 32-bit O/S. Also, what does the "basic" statement look like in the /usr/lib/pick/pick0 file?

core statement is the number of 1K memory blocks, so 2621440 is 2.5GB, not TB. Is the underlying platform 32- or 64-bit? Take a look at /etc/redhat-release to see the Linux version. If 32-bit, you're at your maximum core size. If 64-bit, you could bump the core statement up to 3670016, but do a "free" in Linux first to make sure you have at least 6GB of RAM on the system.

Hi Brian, apologies for the late delay in responding.

It's a 32 Bit version of Linux and what we're going to do is reduce the memory to 1.6GB, and see what the users experience.

    I'll let the group know.

    Thanks

Ok Just to revert to the group and we've had a speed enhancement by reducing the memory to 1.6GB.
    Strange but true :)
