Hi,

We have a network running on a Linux server. The users are experiencing an error 30,64. The system hangs and the server has to be restarted. Any ideas on what this error may mean ?

Thanks in advance.

File status 30 means the operating system threw an error. The secondary status is the OS code. The definition of that code is found in the errno.h file on your server. On one of my Linux servers 64 is defined as "Machine is not on the network".

Thanks Doug. Could this be an issue between Acu and Linux ?

If you have the wrong ACUCOBOL-GT port installed for your specific Linux OS the behavior is undefined. (That means anything can happen.) I've never seen this error on any Linux server but you should confirm that you have the correct port. Our Linux builds are distinguished by the glibc version of the OS. To check that execute "rpm -q glibc". The response on one of my Linux servers is:

glibc-2.3.4-2.25

Then check the machine key of the port you have installed by examining the Makefile which is found in the lib directory of your ACUCOBOL-GT installation. About 8 lines from the top is this line:

# PMK: 137

In my case machine key 137 is the correct port for glibc 2.3.

If your server is glibc 2.3 and you have machine key 137 then your ACUCOBOL-GT installation is correct. If your glibc is different then post those two pieces of information and I can check.

If you have the correct build installed then it seems it is a network issue. Our technical database has several reports of error 30,64 but all on Windows servers, none for any UNIX servers. (On Windows error 64 is also a network error "The specified network name is no longer available.") Troubleshooting the network resolved those issues. In one case rebooting the server resolved it. I'm not sure if rebooting your Linux server will affect this but it may be worth a try if you haven't already.

Thanks again for the reply. We have asked the client to restart the server which does resolve the problem for a while. It occurs every now and then. They are not happy to restart the server each time - it disrupts their workflow. They are running on a version 4.2 runtime. Do you think that an upgrade of the runtime will resolve the issue ?

I will get them to check if the ports are correct and will post the response when I get feedback from them.

Thanks again.

Updating the Runtime may resolve this issue. Since we don't know exactly what the problem is there's a chance the new Runtime will also see the same error. However, with a supported version of the Runtime in place, and a current support contract, Customer Care can help troubleshoot the issue.
