Problem: The COBOL application includes a browser control to display a certain web page.  When the application is executed from AcuToWeb the web page does not display. The browser is blank. Solution: There are two conditions for a web page to display in the browser control when running under AcuToWeb. 1. The browser must use the complete URL. Entering "microfocus.com" won't work, but entering "https://www.microfocus.com" displays the page. 2. AcuToWeb executes COBOL programs in a frame, consequently the web page must be able to run in a frame. For example these common web pages do not run in a frame: https://www.google.com  https://www.amazon.com  But this one does: https://www.microfocus.com Note that the exact behavior varies. Internet Explorer provides an error message that the content cannot be displayed in a frame, and provides a link to open it in a new window.  Chrome and Firefox simply display nothing.

Problem: The COBOL program can have parameters passed to it as allowed by the CHAINING phrase: PROCEDURE DIVISION CHAINING PARAM1 PARAM2 Those parameters are passed in the Runtime command line like this: wrun32 myprogram ABC 123 Which passes “ABC” and “123” for param1 and param2 respectively. With Thin Client that is done similarly in the acuthin command: acuthin server:port myalias ABC 123 How is this accomplished in the URL generated for AcuToWeb? Solution: The "&aliasArgs=" option may be added to the AcuToWeb URL to pass parameters to the COBOL program.  For example AcuToWeb may generate this URL for the above program: http://localhost:3000?hostgw=localhost&portgw=8009&alias=myalias To send the ABC 123 parameters use: http://localhost:3000?hostgw=localhost&portgw=8009&alias=myalias&aliasArgs=ABC 123 (Note that you can separate multiple parameters with , or a space which the browser will convert to .)&nbs

I've reported this issue to Microfocus Supportline: After selecting a folder using "c$opensavebox" the runtime crashes without any error message.There are no errors when selecting a file.Up to and including version 10.0.1 this has worked. Hi All, I'm trying to figure out how one determines the Windows task-bar location. I found that using an ACCEPT statement (like the one below), one can gather information about the user's desktop and determine whether the task-bar is vertical or horizontal. ACCEPT Terminal-Abilities FROM Terminal-Info It seems that this can be done by subtracting USABLE-SCREEN-WIDTH from PHYSICAL-SCREEN-WIDTH and if the result is greater than zero, then that means the task-bar is in a vertical position.   A similar test can be done with USABLE-SCREEN-HEIGHT and PHYSICAL-SCREEN-HEIGHT. But I'm having difficulty in determining what information is available to determine whether the task-bar is on the left or the right, and whether it's on the top or the bottom from the Terminal-Abilities information. How does one typically determine the position of the task bar on the client workstation using COBOL? Thanks, Luis

We are still not having any luck printing using acucobol 10.1.0.  We have gotten a new printer and downloaded the latest release/patch for 10.01.00.  I still cannot print anything from acucobol 10.1.  I have written a sample program calling win$print and I'm getting very different data into the winprint-buffer when selecting the same printer from 10.1 and 9.2.  I can print when running 9.2.4, but get file error 30,00 when trying to print using 10.1.0 (-p SPOOLER-DIRECT) and selecting the printer from a dropdown box.  I have a samples file of the winprint-buffer from version 10.01.00 and 09.02.04 as well as a sample program to produce the files.  I am at a loss as to what to do next.  Does anyone you have any other ideas for me?

Hello First to all, I must say: I´d never used OCX.    Now I´m fighting to add to my system a requirement wich let me offer a solution to a client. This requirement is : To update the status and location of some particular medicines (oncologic, VIH, etc)  in a web service ensuring the trazability by the serial number included in this medicines by a data matrix code. The web service comes from an organism called ANMAT (http://www.anmat.gov.ar/trazabilidad.asp)  who rules this, so, to sell or move a one of this medicines the client (Hospital, Pharmacy, Provider, etc) must update the status in.   I'm no prepared to create it from the beginning, so I found some supports who offers me an interface (with a cost I could pay) which work with an OCX to do this task and obtain a transaction number. Problem: Issuing the following command: acuthin.exe serverIP AcuToWebAlias returns the following error: "Connection failed. Unknown error." Where: AcuToWebAlias is an alias that runs correctly with AcuToWeb Resolution: Check if the license for AcuConnect Thin Client is installed and activated. AcuRCL service can be turned on just having an AcuToWeb license active: acurcl.wlcBut to use acuthin, an acurcl.alc file is necessary. We are working to include a specific error message for this situation, but that is not going to be available in the Acu 10.1.0. We plan to add this to a future release of the Acu product. Hello, attached is a sample program designed in Acubench to help illustrate. What I'm trying to do is dynamically create a series of controls, and as the controls get created past the physical bottom of the screen, I'd like to add scroll to the window, so as to keep the window the same size, but allow for the user to scroll through the controls. Just FYI.  Learning about routers, I ran across Dijkstra’s famous algorithm, and in researching it I found that the guy was a real COBOL hater. His words, circa 1975, were something like, “The use of COBOL cripples the mind; its teaching should, therefore, be regarded as a criminal offence.”  So naturally I had to write a program which would execute his algorithm in COBOL!! I drew on paper an ad hoc network of about 25 interconnected nodes, with a couple stubs, and transcribed the connections and associated costs into working storage. Took me two solid tries and some debugging, and sure it could be optimized, but was a fun and educational effort. The trickiest part was keeping track of the various subscripts of several tables. The way I did it, one table had two different subscripts in action at the same time.  Expression of satisfaction. I'm thinking of doing a spanning tree protocol example in COBOL next.

I'm having trouble getting non-graphical .NET assemblies to work under AcuToWeb. CREATE statements that return a handle under normal circumstances return no handle under AcuToWeb. In fact, they seem to be ignored altogether, because changing the namespace to something non-existent, which would normally cause an error, has no effect. The syntax I'm using to create the control is: CREATE "@My.Assembly" NAMESPACE IS "My.Test.Namespace" CLASS-NAME IS "MyClass" HANDLE IS MY-NONGUI-HANDLE. I've also tried using the AcuToNet.dll interface, but got the CoCreate Instance Failed error. As I understand it, instantiating non-graphical .NET assemblies with CREATE is supported, so is there something I need to do differently to get it to work under AcuToWeb? Thanks. Claire

Problem: COBOL source code compiled under ACUCOBOL-GT 9.2 (or previous) allows START and READ NEXT of an empty file.The returned File Status was 10: End of file. (read next)  However when the same code is compiled under new version 10.0.0, the same logic is forced into the DECLARATIVES section with File Status 92. Resolution: This is a behavior change introduced in release 10.0.0 to fix an issue that was laying in the runtime for a long time. We use the 32-bit Chilkat ActiveX controls (http://www.chilkatsoft.com) for several functions in the 32-bit Windows runtime (currently on 9.2.2 ECN-4266).  One is doing file transfers (FTP, FTPS, and SFTP).  We have been using the FTP portion for a few years.  We have a new vendor that is using SFTP.  I can use the Chilkat control to successfully Connect, AuthenticatePw, and InitializeSftp.  After these steps for SFTP, I have to open a handle for the file on the remote server, then upload the file using the handle created by the open command.  I'm not getting the handle from the open to use for the upload. Problem: The ACUCOBOL-GT runtime may show a constant increase of occupied memory, regardless of the version in use. This may be seen easily in the ACU debugger and using the "u" command. Resolution: If only the "Windows" Memory item increases, a possible cause for this unusual memory allocation is the definition of a Layout Manager handle in the Working-Storage Section of the program. When a called program contains a line like this: 77 NW-HND-LM HANDLE OF LAYOUT-MANAGER LM-RESIZE. an amount of 36 bytes circa of memory is allocated every time the program is called. This can cause a great increase of used memory when the program is called recursively in a loop, even if the Layout Manager is not used by the program itself. Hi, I'm seeing some odd behavior with C$OPENSAVEBOX and extend 10.1.0 on Windows 7. When I try to open a file using several different file types in opnsav-filters, the first file type displays (sort of), but the rest either don't appear at all or are filled with garbage characters. I've tested the same code under 9.2.5 as well, and it works fine. The filter I'm using is "Text files (*.txt)|*.txt|Cobol sources (*.cob)|*.cob|All files (*.*)|*.*" Under extend 9.2.5 it looks like this: Under 10.1.0 it looks like this (it varies):    Is this a known issue? I am trying to parse an XML file. I tried to follow the documentation on AcuXML, the XML2FD sets the file to binary sequential I made the changes to cobol config but when i read the file its not looking at the tags its looking like just a sequential stream of data. I am going to look at RMnet and XML Parse next. Any opinions on which is best for XML parsing and any help with AcuXML would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
