We are currently on ChangeManZMF V827 for most of our platforms, but have begun conversion to V831. We have several applications that are decommissioning out of ChangeMan. We have done a couple searches through the Admin and User Guides, but did not find a section for decommissioning/retiring applications. Any help/guidance (especially for automation to assist with):
- Take a "final" backup of source
- Scratch/remove/delete all components from baseline libraries
- Decommission/remove/delete the application

Hello Jim,
This is how we do it at Euroclear.
We have a standard that any application that is to decommissioned must create a scratch package to remove all it's objects from Changeman, it is at the same time a guarantee that the objects are not used by any other application. Once the packages have been aged (to also make sure no staging libraries/ staging versions are present) we schedule the following activity over the weekend
- Backup the PMAST, CMPNT and CMPNL
- Via SORT commands on all there we exclude the applications leaving us with 67 files
- 3 NEW files (PMAST, CMPNT and CMPNL) without he applications records
- 3 OLD files (PMAST, CMPNT and CMPNL) with only the decommissioned application
If this sounds interesting to you I'm happy to share the sort jobs
Best regards
Johan

Johan,
Thank you for the response. Yes, we would be interested in the SORT to pluck out those applications. Please either post here or you can send it to me directly at my addy below.
Thank you.

Yes Johan - thank you for your email. We have been fully engaged in upgrading one of our systems from V827 to V831, and can now get back to this de-comm effort.

Hi Jim
Once you scratch all of the components -- and age all of the packages using the archive process -- it will create you the archive master that will be available for ever with the package history. Once all of the packages age off, you will be able to simply delete the application from the admin screen. That is the out of the box methodology for decommissioning.

Hello Tom,
We want to keep the subset that was created, so we don't throw away the outsmarted application records (and component records). We sort them out and keep the records, just in case they want to re-instate it. Additionally I don't fully agree with your statement, All the component records are still there, We don't want to use the mechanism that today is in place, it is date based and this is for us a to simple algorithm. As a result all logically deleted component records will stay in the component master.
Every site is different and some out-of-the-box functions don't suit for everybody
Best regards
Johan
