Hi Lisa,
In order for us to be able to support you with this you need to first make sure you are on the latest version of the ZMF Explorer extension.
The latest version is 2.0.6 and this is necessary to keep up with internal changes in the way ZOWE manages user credentials. Please un-install your current version of the extension and have vsCode find the latest version and install that.
This is not guaranteed to resolve your issue but we need to be working from the same platform to be able to progress any further issues you encounter.
Thanks
All the best - Steve

Hi Lisa,
OK, so it sounds like the ZMF extension is having difficulties starting up.
Could you go into the ZMF explorer extension settings and make sure that the logging option is set to DEBUG ?
The relevant setting is described like this:
Zmfexplorer: Logger
Select the log level for the ZMF Explorer. The default is INFO. Levels are cumulative.
Example, for a level of WARN, all warnings, errors and fatals are logged
There is a drop down window below this – please select DEBUG.
Now shut down vsCode.
To avoid confusion with previous attempts please delete the log files.
You can find these in a subfolder below .vscode (under your userid folder on your C: drive).
For me (user sdownes) these log files are found in C:\\Users\\sdownes\\.vscode\\extensions\\rocket software.zmfexplorer-2.0.8\\logs
You may have to enable ‘show hidden files’ to see these files.
The two files to delete are these:
imperative.log
zmfExplorer.log
When you go back into vsCode ZMF explorer they will be created afresh.
Start up vsCode and, without doing anything else, recreate the problem.
Please supply the two log files after the problem has been recreated,
Just in case we need to see them (I’m not certain yet) please also supply your zowe.config.json and zowe.schema.json files.
These can be found in the .zowe folder.
So, again using my set up as an example, they live in C:\\Users\\sdownes\\.zowe
Thanks

Hi Lisa,
It looks like you have a two sets of zowe config defintions, a 'teams' version (which is the one you have supplied here) and a 'user' version.
Coud you send in the 'user' version, this file: c:\\Users\\bre6052\\zowe.config.user.json
And, please copy it somewhere else (in case you actually need it - not sure at this point) and then delete it. Re-start vsCode and try to recreate the problem.
Thanks

I don't have a file
c:\\Users\\bre6052\\zowe.config.user.json
I don't have a file
c:\\Users\\bre6052\\zowe.config.user.json
Hmmm, that's strange.
I see this line in the log:
[2024/10/16 15:02:06.792] [DEBUG] [extensionHostProcess.js:114] Base Profile - base from c:\\Users\\bre6052\\zowe.config.user.json
I don't understand where it got that file name from ?

It exists. I was looking in the wrong directory.

I have no zowe related files in that directory. I am running the same level of ZMF explorer as you are and having no problems with password maintenance. I'm not sure where those files came from (earlier release of zowe and or ZMF extension ?) but, in order for us to be testing like for like, they need to go.
Could you delete all zowe files from that directory (i.e. c:\\Users\\bre6052\\ ) - copy them somewhere completely outside the c:\\Users directory tree and then delete them from c:\\Users\\bre6052\\
Exit vsCode, delete the log files again, and then start vsCode and attempt re-creation.
If it still fails send the log files again.
Thanks

Removing those files corrected the issue. Thanks so much for your help!!!
