Has anybody come across a converter that takes the old .DDS 'ACCEPT' screen statement to a GUI screen. Not holding out much hope.   John

Greetings: I am looking to convert some very old Micro Focus COBOL code from W/B 4.x to Visual COBOL. I would prefer to use Visual COBOL on Eclipse with JDBC connectivity to SQLite or MySQL. Most importantly, I need some samples for an Eclipse solution.  When using MF COBOL on W/B 4.x or Net Express, we call D/S from COBOL. That is, the COBOL is the driver and D/S is a dependent on the COBOL programs...So, is there a way to call a Java GUI using Native COBOL ? For example, could I create a COBOL project using Eclipse and call the "WindowBuilder" [SWT Designer] screens FROM within COBOL ? => If I need to create a Java project and call the COBOL code from within Java; this is a process I am not familiar with; therefore, I would appreciate a few samples. NOTE:  The only one available on the Micro Focus site shows a dialog-box with "Hello"; I would appreciate anyone that has some samples that has both the COBOL and the Eclipse GUI for me to review in detail

I'm using the personal edition of Visual COBOL for Eclipse. Is this edition eligible for Micro Focus data tools add-pack? If so, how do I get it? Recently I attempted to register at supportline.microfocus.com/ so that I could get the data tools add-pack and the error message I received was, "A customer attempted to register on the Micro Focus SupportLine website but we were unable to complete their registration automatically because the customer didn't know the exact company name or serial number." I'm just someone trying to learn COBOL at home and on my own time. I don't work for or represent a company that uses COBOL. Hi everybody, when using resizable screens, it's a good idea to positioning controls with "column plus 1". Unfortunately, this is not possible in the screen designer in the workbench. Only absolute numerical values can be entered here.I can handle this when I enter "additional properties" "col plus 1".This also works, but the compiler generates "Warning: Repeated or conflicting option".Can this be prevented? Problem: After upgrading to ACUCOBOL-GT version 10 a successful START TRANSACTION operation the TRANSACTION-STATUS is set to 99 which indicates ‘not supported’.  All of the conditional checks for success, TRANSACTION-STATUS = 0, now fail. Solution: This is due to ACUCOBOL-GT version 10 including by default the RMFM file system which does not support transactions. The START TRANSACTION operation checks all file systems available and since the RMFM does not support transactions TRANSACTION-STATUS is set to 99. The solution is to add a Runtime configuration setting “RMFM-DETACH 1”. This detaches the RMFM file system so the START operation won’t see it and TRANSACTION-STATUS will be set to zero.  Alternatively, you can remove the RMFM library file itself to prevent it from being loaded.  That is armfm.dll on Windows, and libarmfm.so or libarmfm64.so for non-Windows shared-library builds.  For non-Windows static builds use the configuration

Please, I have problem with inserting PIC N variable into NCHAR column in DB (MSSQL) I read line from UTF-8 file to PIC N record - here is everything ok, but when I do SQL INSERT from this variable to NCHAR column in DB exec sql insert into AAA111 (TEXT) values(:data1) end-exec I got complete rubbish data here.  Hi, Previously, I posted a question regarding the use of -P PDF in printing output to pdf format. I am able to print it now thanks to experts that calmly lead me to successfully use the pdf printing support. Now, I am trying to set the PDF settings with margins, font size and all. However, I can't seem to find a runtime environment variable for lines per page. Is there a variable that enables me to set how many lines per page? Thank you.

Hi there, I'm connecting to a MySQL db from Visual COBOL on Windows 10 and have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help with. I have watched Chris Glazier's useful MF video, 'Database Access Using ODBC with Visual COBOL' . (1) I'm assuming 32 bit throughout? I am using defaults in VC which I believe is 32 bit? (2) When setting up my ODBC DSN I have the option of a 'unicode' MySQL 32-bit driver or an 'ansi' one. Which should I use and why? (3) Simplest db sign-in? In our Windows production environment we have (a) standalone machines,  (b) server/client and (c) servers with users connecting with RDT. Is it easier to use built-in windows automatic security or have a specific MySQL username and password which is then specified in the programs. Simplifying deployment is my aim. Hello everyone:     I am trying to generate javadoc for my java project use the visual cobol eclipseIDE(toolbar→project→Javadoc generation) and I also generate an javadoc ant file(.xml) at the same time.     When I tried to run the  ant file by eclipseIDE, it just failed with java.lang.IllegalArgumentException. But, when I tried to run the ant file by command line like this: ant -f myAntFile.xml, it totally works!     Is this a bug with eclipseIDE or some default settings? Has anyone in the community experiences major run time degradation when running Visual Cobol-compiled modules on a virtual server? Here's what's happening to me:  Running VC 2.2, I wrote a test program in native (non-managed) COBOL that reads through 3 pretty large indexed-sequential files.  When I run this test on my machine, and point to the data on a virtual server using a mapped drive that points to a share, it runs in about 50 seconds.  When I run the program from the server, using a drive letter that is defined as a local drive to the server, it runs in 200 seconds.  If I run from the server and use a UNC path to point to the data rather than a drive letter, it runs about 65 seconds.  Each test uses the exact same data in the exact same location.  The only differences are where the program is run from and how it is referenced. We are going to be getting a server with 4TB of memory  (yes... 4TB,,, not GB..) This is an HP Superdome  We are SEE 6.0SP2.    For years we have had in our ENV for Red Hat dynamic_memory_limit=50000000.  I am unclear from the documentation how this can be taken advantage of.  If I just eliminate it, will the OS and RTS handle this by taking the top off it or restricting it to 0?  Looking to really maximize this huge memory allocation.

I am trying to call a method within my c# dll. I have generated the dll and I have created the def file from that dll. That all works fine. The problem is the COBOL implementation. I am using ACUCOBOL 10.0.1. I am unsure how to call my dll method. We're using XBis 9.2 under Windows; we receive a text string that contains embedded CR/LF characters.  In looking at the XML, the CR/LF characters are there; however, when the text string is passed to Cobol, it seems the CR/LF characters have been stripped out of the text. Is this normal behaviour, or something that can be changed via a setting, etc? Thanks Tony

Hi all, from when I installed the new version 10.1 of the Runtime, my main program got a strange and (for us) serious problem with entry field. In a few words the strange behavior can be repeated like this with the sample program i attach to this post: by the entry-field push 'space'; a menu pop-up will be created; select the 'test' option; after the popup message you will be redirected to the entry-field; with Runtime 10.1 you will see the space into the entry-field selected and the cursor property with value 2. With Runtime prior the 10.1 version you can see instead the cursor positioned at the beginning of the entry-field and the entry-field empty. This seams to be a little problem, but for as this is serious because we have different behavior when the cursor is at the beginning and when not. Hi All,    I am now working on the rollback features into my program.  I am facing a problem that if my program involve more than sub program, then the rollback seem is not works for the sub program if the failure is from the main program.  For example,  1) Program A is calling Program A-1.  2) Program A-1 is running successfully.  3) Program A is having failure on one of the file after calling Program A-1.  4) Rollback is rollback whatever save in Program A, but can the program A-1 data also be rollback when Program A fail.    Thanks You.     

Hi, as you can see on attached screen I can't search for program in browser view. Search for variable or section name in specific program is working correctly. Screen is from Net Express 3.1.11, but I have same problem in Net Express 5.1 Please is there solution how to search for specific program within whole project in this window? Thanks #netexpress
