I am trying to execute an NSIS created .exe installer for an auto update. This exe will not execute making the auto-update process fail. The lines in the log are: 11:44:16 Executing "C:\\Users\\hugh\\Desktop\\NRFDist\\nrf_roe_client_setup.exe"11:44:16 Error executing "C:\\Users\\hugh\\Desktop\\NRFDist\\nrf_roe_client_setup.exe" However, this does not happen if I provide an MSI package. I can wrap the exe file in an MSI package, but this is a little clunky. According to the docs, it would seem that an exe file should be able to be used. How do I get the thin client to execute the exe file? Does TC_INSTALLER_ARGS may have something to do with this?
I would like someone to confirm the following as the "best" way to get from VC 2.3 on VS 2013 to VC 2.3 on VS 2015 on Windows 7 PC: 1. Remove VC 2.3 license. 2. Un-install VC 2.3 for VS 2013 Hotfix #1. 3. Un-install VC 2.3 for VS 2013. 4. Un-install VS 2013. 5. Install VS 2015. 6. Install VC 2.3 for VS 2015. 7. Install VC 2.3 for VS 2015 Hotfix #1. 8. Install VC 2.3 license.

CS 2.3 w/ Hotfix #1 installed on Windows Server 2008 R2. VC 2.3 for VS 2013 w/ Hotfix #1 installed on Windows 7 PC. We are trying to call a native COBOL DLL from an ASPX/C# program using: [DllImport("WYP46P", EntryPoint = "WYP46P", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Ansi, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.Cdecl)] It worked on the PC from the VS IDE. But from the server we get: Unable to load DLL 'WYP46P': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) We've tried compiling the DLL as Console and 32-bit/64-bit/Any-PC, Dynamic Link with and without Binding, with and without System Programs. "Frand" started a forum post "C# calling NE cobol" on 30 Oct 2015 for this exact same error but in Net Express. That thread never was concluded/answered. In our case the web application is executing under a "service account" that has admin rights to the hosting server,
Problem: The following complex query compiles fine in Net Express: EXEC SQL DECLARE cursor0 CURSOR FOR SELECT col1, col2, CASE WHEN ... THEN (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table1 WHERE ...) ELSE (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table1 WHERE... AND EXISTS (SELECT * FROM table2 WITH (NOLOCK) WHERE ...)) END, CASE WHEN ... END FROM Table0 END-EXEC. When compiling the above in Visual COBOL 2.3 for Visual Studio, the following error occurs: COBES0100 : Incorrect SQL statement syntax near: WITH Resolution: The issue has already been addressed in Visual COBOL 2.3 Hotfix1 that is available at the Product Updates pa
Who can help me? I want to send automatically without Intervention of the operator an Email from my program with NETEXPRESS 5.1. I prepare the mail with invoke MessageObj "SetTo" using PARA-MAIL . invoke MessageObj "SetSubject" using ASUNTO-MAIL . invoke messageObj "setHTMLBody" using MENSAJE-O. with no problems. invoke messageobj "send". works perfectly, but only if my OUTLOOK is running previously. If it is not running I get an OleException. How can I test if OUTLOOK is running and, if not ,make run any version of OUTLOOK from my program? I tried 002841 STRING 'START OUTLOOK' or 002841 STRING 'OUTLOOK' 002844 x"
Problem: The Windows 8 PC has a Y: drive mapped to a shared folder on the server. When calling C$CHDIR with a blank parameter it returns the current directory. If the current directory is Y:\\DATA it returns the UNC name instead, \\\\SERVER\\SHARE\\DATA. On Windows 7 and earlier it returns Y:\\DATA. Resolution: It turns out that the application is launched from a shortcut using "Run as administrator". Under the hood the C$CHDIR library routine calls Microsoft's Win32 API function GetCurrentDirectory(). Unfortunately, Microsoft changed how this function works on Windows 8 (and newer), so that when "Run as Administrator" it returns the UNC path, and not the drive letter path. As such Micro Focus Development has marked this issue as a permanent restriction. On Windows 8, and newer, calling C$CHDIR will return the UNC path when using "Run as administrator".
I am unable to print direct to usb printer under windows 7 using MF VS 2015. I spent considerable time researching how to do this. I am very familiar with Liant's RM Cobol printing facilities. I tried setting the COBCONFIG.cfg via Gael's steps but the properties for the project under the application tab does not have a Environment button... I have tried Chris's suggestions also... I keep getting the error LPT1 not found in VS 2015 during project execution... Any definitive help would be appreciated as I am not familiar with MF VS 2015 or any other visual development environment. I have spent most of my life writing in pure legacy environments. I thank all for their help ! The code is simple select lne assign to printer organization is line sequential. fd lne label records are omitted. 01 lnerec pic x(132). open output lne. move "test" to lnerec. write lnerec. close lne.

Hello, I have some licensing questions regarding Net Express 5.1 if anyone with knowledge on this product can help me: 1. In case you have a CPU based license how do you determine the required number of CPU licenses if Net Express 5.1 is deployed on a virtual server (e.g. VMware) ? 2. Do you count the number of virtual CPU's, physical CPU's, physical cores? 3. What if the virtual server is part of a VMware cluster?
How can I remove Visual Cobol from my Visual Studio? Thanks
I hope I'm in the right place. First let me say that i've inherited this system from a former IT member 3x removed now. I have no ideal how this is setup, so please forgive me for sounding stupid. We moved into a new office last week and are on a new network. I've updated the IP of the Acucobal server, but when clicking on the client I get "Connection failed General socket error". I'm guessing that the client software is pointed to the server, which has now been moved. Would anyone know if this is something I need to go back to the developer to fix or is there something on the server side I need to change? Sorry for being so vague, if you need more detail, let me know what you need and I'll dig it up. thanks, Jeff#communicationsocketerrorThinClientAcuConnect#ACU
We've just been informed that we will no longer be allowed to run our application from the console. Currently our application consists of a number of task-specific native console programs (.exe) that use SCREEN SECTIONs and ACCEPTs and DISPLAYs to gather task-specific input from the operator and then call distinct series' of individual native Dynamic Link Libraries (.dll), passing the gathered input data through LINKAGE SECTIONs. Our idea is to replace the console programs with .aspx's, and port the native .dll programs to managed code in a new solution. That way the .aspx's can gather the input data via web pages and then drive the call lists of .dlls. We are assuming that the .dll programs will be COBOL>Managed>Class Library projects? But when we tried to create a managed code version of one of the native .dll programs the compiler completely choked with errors and warnings. A big part of the problems seem to stem from a right m

Is it possible to prevent AcuBench from auto generating the default declarative code for the file "open" modes? We use AcuBench to design the vast majority of our programs, and in any where we add a data set the below code is auto generated. This is even with every one of our data sets set to "do not generate any IO Paragraphs" in the DLT setup. The end result is any actual error that occurs when the file is being opened is skipped and when an error is thrown its related to the process downstream that is failing due to the file never being opened. For example a 49,02(91,02) file not open on rewrite, delete, later in processing. I'm able to delete the declaratives manually from the CBL however anytime the source is regenerated they come back. Micro Focus has always tried to provide a full, in-depth development environment for COBOL developers. In previous releases of Micro Focus NetExpress it was possible to send files to the printer and have them print in duplex mode. The technique used was to call a Micro Focus supplied process using the following format and passing it a series of parameters similar to the following Unfortunately this process applies to a non-managed environment. More and more clients are moving to a managed environment under .NET. How then does one translate the above Micro Focus specific implementation of duplex printing to managed-COBOL? The following article shows how to use the properties available in the Print Document class to enable duplex printing in .NET and adapt the Microsoft approach to handling printers. Print Document Class Before we dig into the specifics of implementing duplex printing we need to review the Print Document class. According to Microsoft the Print Document class “Defines a
We ran the following vutil command and got an error code of 94. What is error 94? We check the documentation but 94 was not listed. vutil command options were: "vutil32 -unload -t ", followed by the input and output file names.
F.A.O Chris Glazier, Hi Chris, I'd like to access web services direct from Visual COBOL e.g. FTP to do automatic software updates, send emails, scrape web pages etc. Can you point me to any help for this. My immediate interest is to be able to do automatic software updates for our users by accessing update files from our server. Thanks, Linden

Is it possible to change the CODE_PREFIX programmatically so that objects can be called in a different directory or is this strictly a configuration variable that is loaded when the run time starts.

I have a user with 64-bit Windows Ultimate SP1, Dell OptiPlex 9110, that cannot run a program using C$SYSTEM. As soon as the CALL C$SYSTEM command is executed it fails. Other users not having this problem, but I am remote, its not clear if the other users have Windows Ultimate. I don't experience the behavior on my Dell T1700 WIndows Professional o/s. Has anyone else seen this? Is there another method to execute a user inputted acucobol program name that works? Thanks out there! Hope I can help you guys one day.
