Hi I am using Managed Visual Cobol for Microsoft Visual Studio. I access files using the COBOL Open, Read, Write, Rewrite and Close. I have two Forms. form1 produces FORM2. Form2 has one textbox, several labels, some of witch receive data from the program, and three buttons. My Problem is this: Everything was going great. Reading data. Displaying data etc. I had a problem and stopped the Debugger and corrected the problem. Ever since then, the index read has returned an empty record. The only data in the record is the key witch was moved in by the program. I also tried a process that read the same file sequentially. Same results, an empty record. I have tried recycling the computer and full power down. same Results. I even deleted the physical files and tried to recreate it with another program. The File is NOT recreated. This Program has not changed. It opens for output, reads the data from a text file and then writes to the index file. I have checked all input and outp

We are running RM COBOL on RHEL v 6.4.   We currently have Esker's vsifax integrated into our programs for sending faxes & emails. Its very nice that the program knows by what we put in whether it is an email or fax number - so same routine for both. The faxes go out thru a modem & the emails get routed thru our Exchange server. When we updated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 our invoice emails that go out as a larger group are getting caught in Tarpit on 2010. Esker knows this is a problem and even though 2013 is out, have not idea when (or I think how) they are going to fix it.  They have a supposed work around but we could not get it to work. So my question though is really this - does any one have any knowledge or experience with a similar product that we could use to replace VsiFax?#linuxcobol#RMCOBOL#COBOL

I would like to be able to use our 32-bit installation of ACUCOBOL 9.2.1 to call a method from a non-GUI class in a .NET 4.0 DLL. There are no sample programs in the sample directory that show an example of using the CREATE statement, so I tried to write my own. However, I can't get the COBOL in my minimal test to compile. Can anyone here help? The C# code for the .NET DLL is in the file MyDLL.cs: namespace MyNamespace { public class MyClass { public int getInt() { return 42; } } } I compiled this in 64-bit Windows 7 using what I think is the "any CPU" version of the C# compiler and framework: C:\\Windows\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v4.0.30319\\csc /t:library MyDLL.cs The resulting DLL is named MyDLL.dll. I'm hoping someone can help me.  In our software we are able to generate and send out emails.  The current procedure we use is by calling a third party software that uses MAPI.   Some of our customers are having issues running this, so I was wondering if there is a way in RM/COBOL to use SMPT?

In regards to the Personal Edition of Visual COBOL - what features are supported for CGI programs?  I have found the EXTERNAL-FORM and EXEC-HTML facilities. EXEC HTML errors out for me. Using the command line so I can more easily copy the results into this note, here is an example:  This source code: EXEC HTML <HR>MESSAGE VALUE = [:O-MESSAGE]<br> END-EXEC Causes this error:  paul@LNX1:~/web/cobsrc> cob -xo ../bin/CGI001 CGI001.cblCGI001.o: In function `CGI001':CGI001.cbl:(.text 0x41d): undefined reference to `HTML' The External Forms stuff works pretty well, but it feels a little old. Sending the entire form back each time a request happens isn't all that efficient either.  Has anyone gotten this to work with say, XML or modern Ajax based screens? Ok, I do not know what I am doing wrong but I have a new solution that has 2 projects in it. 1 is a cobol program that is compiled as an exe and call the second program, which I have set up in a project as a dll.  Under the references in the exe program, I can not add the .dll program.  What am I doing wrong?

There is a manner to apply a specific font in an ACCEPT statement like I can do in a DISPLAY statement? For example: I can write DISPLAY LABEL "Enter Customer Code:" AT 0305 FONT H-FONT but I can't write ACCEPT CUSCODE AT 0335 UPDATE TAB FONT H-FONT and elements have a different size. I am trialling Visual COBOL.  I've successfully converted my Net Express project to Visual COBOL, and it runs on my PC.  How do I deploy it to another machine?  (We have COBOL Server available and installed). I've found good instructions at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/k3bb4tfd(v=vs.80).aspx which says I have to create a deployment project but there are no "Setup and deployment projects" showing in the "Other Project Types" pane, which is empty.  I am using Visual Studio 2010 Shell - maybe it is not available in the Shell? To create a deployment project On the File menu, point to Add, and then click New Project. In the Add New Project dialog box, in the Project Types pane, open the Other Project Types node, click Setup and Deployment Projects, then click Setup Project in the Templates pane. I have screen 1 with a menu that has a item with exception value 1000.   I have another screen that is called from screen 1 that has a different menu that also has an item with exception value 1000.   We are testing Acu 9.2.1 and have found that now when the second screen is called and the user presses Alt-X to exit screen it will also perform the exception 1000 from screen 1.   This does not happen in the Acu 6.2 version of the programs. A few added points: 1. This does not happen when running in Debug (so I can't trap it).  2. I can fix it by going and updating the exception values to be different (lots of coding I should not have to do).  3.  This seems to only happen on screens that are create in the same project in AcuBench. 4.  If the user clicks Exit on screen 2 with the mouse or hits Alt then X the error does not occur. 5.  The only item on the second screen is a Acu browser element that we show information on. We have several systems written using NetExpress 3.0 and Dialog using a Sybase database. These were written back in about 2000.  The COBOL programs mostly called Sybase stored procedures but some of them have the actual SQL in the program.  Back then we had a Sybase - COBOL precompiler that was used to precompile these programs.  These days all of our development uses Oracle and not Sybase.  We need to convert the Sybase applications to Oracle. I'm not sure what Oracle precompiler there is for COBOL or what would work with NetExpress 3.0.  I've seen an Oracle product called  PRO-COBOL and i'm wondering if this is what I need.  Does anyone know what precompiler I can use. I know there has to be one because we originally were going to use Oracle instead of Sybase and had talked to Merant/MicroFocus about it.  Any help will be appreciated.

Hi We have some legacy applications that are compiled with Object COBOL 4.0.07 which was installed on an older desktop (Windows 95)I'm a support guy at work and make me a petition to prepare a new developer machine to compile Coboli'm now trying prepare a new developer machine, but i dont have the install medias. the install method is all manually, copy installation and configuration from productive to new machine including config.sys and autoexec.bati have tried several configurations Win95 & Win98, in fact i have a "new" machine with windows 95 (Pentium S 166Mhz) very similar to productive sometimes works and compiled ok but after some compile test stop working..the message is:error code: 112 PC=0 Call=1 Seg=0and when compiler runs finish telling can't find the key (this is via parallel port)and i'm setup same way IRQ=07 IO=0378-037F on BIOS parallel port mode SPPi think the compiler not found the hardware key, the linking process works fine.please can instruct me how to resolve

I'm attempting to get the CobolCallingJava example for ACUCOBOL-GT version 8.1.3.1 working. When running the example, I get the following error for each occurrence of CALL C$"JAVA": Java dynamic init failed. We have a COBOL application compiled with NetX 5.1 and have issues running it on a Windows 7 machine with hyperthreading enabled. The application is NOT multithreaded but works fine on XP machines that are hyperthreaded. The application reads data from an Oracle or Sybase DB, processes it and then writes to the same DB. Connectivity is via native ODBC. The user is able to kick off multiple instances of a script (muti-process - not multi-threaded) that calls the same application (exe). Each application will read separate sets of account data, process and write the results. So essentially multiple instances of the application are executing in separate Command Window Shells - separate processes. This scenario works well on XP - hyperthreaded or not - but not on Win 7. In fact we see this issue on Win 7, even if a SINGLE application/process/instance is kicked off. Trying out the Personal Edition looking to find the right COBOL to do a project with, but for the life of me, I cannot get the Linux version with eclipse to license. Anyone else succeeded with this and willing to share a tip or two to a very frustrated person?  Also, the project involves a lot of CGI programs running on a single Linux box. I am open to the best and lowest cost options to do this. There are a half dozen maintenance programs that run either in a batch mode or as a green screen app. It doesn't matter if they run green screen or GUI to me, we can easily do either. It is mostly the extended ACCEPT we are looking for. (I said CGI, but these are mostly Ajax powered web programs, and actually they transmit XML with each transaction.)  I have included the only information I can find about licensing it below, and that is not the 16 character license code the license manager is looking for. :)  Thanks,  -Paul  Serial NumberProductVersionPlatfor
