Rocket® COBOL

I have an idea for a service.  It would accept incoming network connections but instead of launching a cobol-thread to process the socket that gets created, it would need to start a separate process, with a new runcbl session.   I've figured out how to pass enough information that the new-process could open a socket back to the service, and together they could handle the communication, but this would basically duplicate all the traffic going in/out of this server, because the information would have to be copied back and forth between the service and the new runtime.   Do-able, but inefficient.  Thus the desire to pass a socket handle to the newly started runtime and let it handle the communication by itself. This will normally be running on a linux server, but it would be nice if windows was also an option.#CSOCKET

They told me there was a similar error with AcuServer, that should be fixed in Acu 10.0.1 and ask for a trace log when the error occurs, but we don't know where this error come from, and we can't reproduce at will.We are using AcuCobol GT-Runtime (10.0.1) (without AcuServer as far I know) under Linux and have a problem with TM-files in our working directory getting that large until the hard drive is full. The files are beginning with "TM" followed by six random letters and numbers.We found TM-files at another customer server using Acu 8.1.3, most of them have size zero, but some are contain data records we think to know. Need some ideas to get rid of more hardcoding. Currently when we post to the ledger from sales all the accounts and what amounts to use are hardcoded in the program. As I am trying to get rid of as much hardcoding as I can I am look for an idea or if someone has already solved this via some kind of file layout or ?? Can anyone tell me why my cobol program has delays when it calls another program in ACUTHIN, but has an immediate response in ACUSERVER?  I am upgrading from 8.1.1 to 10.3.1 and I currently do not have any issues in Production with ACUTHIN.   Granted, we are going from a 2003 server to 2016 server, but I would have expected the same or better performance

Can anyone tell me how to determine why I am getting different results from the same program in 8.1.1 vs 10.3.1 when I accept a font value from standard objects and W$FONT?  I'm migrating from 2003 to 2016 and the results of these statements is causing my screen handling to give strange results.  I have looked everywhere trying to understand the values being returned by these commands without success.

Is it possible to get another one year license for Visual COBOL 5.0 PE (running under Visual Studio 2019)? - Mine has expired. I've tried the 'manual send email' option in Visual Studio under 'Micro Focus Visual COBOL Product Licensing' but have not received a response.  I see that version 6.0 is available but I won't be able to download/install it until our office reopens.  Thank you.

We are using visual cobol 2.3, framework 4.5. I need to send out a json file. We don't currently work with json so I am not sure what I am doing. I seen there is a json generate statement in cobol upgrades, but upgrading is not an option for us right now. I guess I envision this to have a text file that we would run a program over to convert to json.  How would the text file need set up? What statements/libraries would be needed? Thanks!

I have finally got Alfred to compile on our system with the help from M/F. I need help with a modification I want to do. I want the RW button on to be the default rather than the RO button. I have took a look but can not figure out where to make the modification.  

helloI am trying to use the CBL2XML tool, to convert an XML schema to a cpy cobol file, in order to generate XML invoice files. But it always crashes, and does not generate anything. I have to close the version with the task manager.I try from the command interface, any of the versions of CBL2XML, included in VC 6.0 in 32 and 64 bits, and also the wizard version included in NetExpress 5.1 (CBL2XMLWZ.exe), and I follow the instructions detailed when writing the command, and the result is always the same. Crash,I ask, is CBL2XML really operative? or if there is another alternative.Attached are the XML schematics that I need to generate the cpys.Greetings

Compiling any programs from a converted project from Netexpress 5.x i become following compile error:MSB4181 - Die Aufgabe "Cobol" hat "FALSE" zurückgegeben, jedoch keinen Fehler protokolliert. i had no problem with sql syntax and i work a long time only with sql databases.Now i want to change my conventional programs to access the sql database and all operations as oo cobol.Do you have a little example to call this oo-methods? connect, select, insert, update, drop, etcI want to program this showing the examples in VC6.0 and Netexpress 5.1, but become not a running program.Thank you very much for any help!

HelloI would like to use the CBL2XML tool, to convert the attached XSD schemas. I have tried to use the versions included in Visual Cobol 6.0 and Net Express 5.1.19 in the 32 and 64 b versions from the CMD and also the wizard version CBL2XMLWZ.exe, and in all of them, it crashes, does not generate the cpy on demand, and forces to close the session. I am currently testing AcuToWeb 10.4 with my application.It’s a fantastic feature that opens up unlimited possibilities with respect to mobile computing and it is working just fine with may application.  There are just a few hic-ups that I'm sure the developers can rectify.But, please get it working and certified for IOS so our AcuCobol applications can execute on tablets and smart phones.  (Specifically iPads and iPhones).Thanks   

I am having issues creating an variable length records for a file I am exporting out of my program.My issue is that the Carriage Return and the Line feed are not showing up in the correct spot in the record.When I would make this file in RM COBOL - It allowed me to use an Line Sequential File layout, and records that had spaces at the end (that are supposed to be there) were NOT truncated.Now, using the same exact code with Visual COBOL, the records that have spaces at the end of the record, the Carriage Return\\Line feed is being placed at the end of the last character in the record (the way Line sequential files are SUPPOSED to work)I've changed my file layout to be Record Sequential, but now i'm getting Garbage at the front of every record.How do I make this file work?? I've tried EVERYTHING!

I have just completed an installation of Visual COBOL for Eclipse and trying to compile and run a program. It compiles fine but gives this linking error. I assume it is some additional library or path that is not correctly configured. This is running on Windows 10. This is a simple test program from a class.
