I am a user of a Reflection for Web system.
I would like to FTP files between the server and my desktop, but the connection traverses the internet and I want the session to be secure.
Once I log into a terminal session and initiate a FTP of a file,
does that file transfer in the clear (as a separate connection from the terminal)?
or does the FTP transfer get routed over the HTTPS session I have with the terminal?



Is there any MicroFocus Reflection documentation that discusses these types of connectivity, what is secure and not secure?

Hi required,

Depending on the host type it may be possible to transfer files using the secure connection the terminal is using. However, you can not use the connection for FTP file transfers. If you need to use FTP, then you should use the FTP applet (which is separate to the terminal applet and needs to be setup and assigned on the RWEB server).

Once you have an FTP applet setup and assigned, there are options to use FTPS or SFTP in the applet configuration. Normally FTPS would be used when connecting to zOS or iOS, and SFTP would be used when connecting to a UNIX, OpenVMS or HP host.

The relevant help is integrated into the product and is not available on line. When you get access to an FTP applet, then under the connection settings dialog, you can click on the "Help" button to get to the relevant help documentation.

Note: if there are obstibles aloug the routh to the host such as an RWEB Security Proxy, internet proxys, firewalls etc, then they will need to be configured to allow your FTP applet to connect to/through it.
