I am running an older version of Rumba, version 7.1.0. I am wanting to execute scripts, both internally and externally via an API. However, I am unable to launch the API dialog (Options/API) from inside Rumba. When I click the Options/API menu item, nothing happens. Is there a DLL or a configuration setting that enables the API dialog?

Hi RichMay,
in this rumba version, the API feature should be installed by default.
You can deselect the API feature in the setup. Please check what components you have installed.
But I'm pretty sure this is a compatibility issue with the OS. The version is too old.
You can do a quick test and run your Display Session under Win95 compatibility mode.
Is the API Dialog now visible?

Hope it helps

Hi Andre,

The API feature is installed, I had checked the 'Complete Install' option during the initial setup.

I tried running the display session with Win95 and Win 98/ Windows ME compatibility modes, but the application wouldn't load in either mode(see attachment for error message). I was however, able to load the app in in XP SP1 compatibility mode, but clicking the API menu still wouldn't display the API dialog.

Hi Andre,

Good news! I found the solution to my issue. The Display Session needs to be invoked with administrator permissions. Once I invoked the display session as an administrator, clicking the API button opened the API Options dialog and I was able to set the Session Id/Short Name, which in turn allowed me to execute my scripts.

Unfortunately, though, this brings up another issue. Our security policy is very strict, and does not allow typical users to run applications as administrators. I understand that the API and scripts are a very powerful tool and could cause harm if misused, but is there anyway to Bypass/Turn Off the administrator setting, within the Rumba configuration settings, to allow scripts to be executed without running the display session as an administrator?

I see a RUMBA 7.x critical in a production environment. RUMBA 7.x knows nothing about User Account Control (UAC) in windows, I'm sure there are more surprises.Surprise.

Once you set the API shortname for your ehllapi application there should be no need for the user to change it.
Does RUMBA work with your ehllapi Application  without admin rights ?

cheers
