Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: braleighkyI am running Change Man v5.6.1 and trying to find a way during checkout of a source component to see if member name's match the first 6 characters with the name in another library that contains the automated balancing procedure for that source. I would like to notify the user that there is an automated balancing procedure with the same name as the source and let them know they should verify whether it should be updated due to changes to the source member. If anyone has any ideas that they could share that would be appreciated.Posted 1/11/2008 1:51 PM#ChangeManZMF#oldforumpost#postd165f2f7f9
Question posted 9/18/08 by Veasna ChimDetails:Is anyone using OOCoD (On/Off Capacity on Demand) with ChangeMan ZMF at their shop? We are on z/OS 1.9/ISPF 5.9 and our ChangeMan ZMF version is 5.5.3. If yes, can you share your experience with me (good, bad, lessons-learned)? We are going to be testing the compatabilit of OOCoD with ChangeMan ZMF at our shop in the next month and wanted to get some 'foresight' before then. We would appreciate any input from anyone here on this ChangeMan ZMF forum. My contact information is below in case you want to directly correspond with me But so far, these are the questions we asked Serena Support and their responses. Thanks!:1. Do you have other customers using OOCoD? Not that we know of. We license as "not to exceed nnn mips". 2. Are there any known problems, conditions for using this feature (ex: do we need a new license)? If the serial number changes then YES. Otherwise NO. 3. Will ChangeMan ZMF 5.5.3 fail? NO. 4. Will ChangeMan ZMF 5.5.

Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: lbjergesWe currently use stacked revere deltas to some extent as a baseline library type. In the future we will probably increase its use since we are thinking of converting Librarian ARC-masters to stacked reverse deltas. All this works fine, however there is a small problem that I would appreciate if anybody has any thoughts about. This is the scenario:When we delete components in Changeman we don ́t really like to erase them physically due to audit rules concering source-code (like SRC, like CPY and so on). These "deleted" components we would like to scratch from Changeman controlled baseline libraries BUT store, along with their history, in "shadow" libraries outside of Changeman. When using Librarian as a means of baseline storage we are able to do a utility COPY of the member and the a subsequent -DLM (if the Copy worked). The resulting "shadow" library will then be accessable by means of normal Librarian functions (batch or

Register at http://www.serena.com/company/news/usergroups.html.Abstract: ChangeMan ZMF is the industry’s most powerful mainframe SCM tool, delivering a central point of control, consistent change lifecycle methodology, increased accountability, and protection of software assets. While these capabilities are crucial for developers, those who are required to correct application failures or poor performance often rely on Operational Productivity technologies. These technologies help ensure the smooth performance of business systems, and when problems occur, they help identify the root cause of an application failure.Traditionally, SCM and Operational Productivity technologies have been seen as “bookends” for the production environment. But the unification of these tools can provide a holistic view of the entire production env

Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: karlacopeI am interested in finding out if anyone has customized ChangeMan ZMF to take advantage of the COBOL compiler options 'CICS' and 'SQL.' This is the recommended method rather than running separate pre-compile steps. It seems like a good idea but I’m not sure the customization effort would be worth it. Has anyone done this?Posted 3/19/2008 7:50 AM lbjergesAbout threee years ago we implemented the DB2 coprocessor in Changeman COBOL compiles in a test environment. Our main goal at the time was to reduce the number of steps and file I/O in the Cobol stage and also draw benefits for the developers doing interactive debug (nicer listings). At that point in time however the feature was not very mature and required a lt of PTFs in the IBM products. We finally got it to work however and found out that the elapsed time and excps actually was higher than doing a stand-alone pre-compile. The listing was OK however. The reason that we

However, we quickly learned that we need to consider programs, control card updates, cataloged procedures, etc. in the package along with the JCL or in a participating package. How do we include these components that are referenced in the jcl when they are not yet in baseline?Do we make it simple by requiring users to baseline programs, control cards and cataloged procedures prior to staging a JCL component? The promise of these engines is that they help you take better advantage of what you already have, increasing the throughput of a machine by offloading capacity from the main CPU.The growing importance of these engines is a clear indicator of the growing importance of Linux and Java environments on the mainframe.Have you implemented these specialty processor enginers, and if so, are they paying the dividends you had expected? Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: davidparkerAgile development methodologies are rapidly gaining ground in distributed applications development environments, but less so for mainframe teams. What is preventing your mainframe shop from adopting Agile?Posted 5/21/2007 12:56 PM eburkeDavid - in many ways the mainframe developers are in a much better position to implement agile. The concepts of interative development and tools and process displine around release management in the mainframe environment makes iterations and 'shippable code' at the end of each sprint a real possiblility. During a recent Certified Scrum Master training course I attended, we had a mainframe application manager in the class that had already implemented scrum and was releasing to prodution at the end of every two week sprint. The key is process displine and tools to release shippable code on a 2-4 week basis (don't look now, but the mainframe guys have been doing this for a long time!)Po

Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: sujaprakashConsidering Configuration Audit to be one of the four main functions of Configuration Management , I personally feel that the Audit feature, if properly explored and used with Changeman ZMF, can go a long way in implementing Physical Configuration Audit. As far as the Functional Configuration Audit is concerned, it is more to make sure that a functional system verification has been completed, which can be implemented by slightly customizing approvals, to make sure that Testing at the appropriate level has been completed. The audit report can be used to report on the release and prepare release notes too about the mainframe configuration going live. Many shops just use audit as a formality to initiate freeze. Discussion posted 3/28/08 by Serenity ThompsonDetails: mikeokeefehi all. Working at a site that wants to trap mainframe alerts, particularly job abends, and generate a Help Desk ticket in TeamTrack. Assuming the mechanism into TeamTrack (big assumption, I know), how would one generate that email from the MF side? I am guessing something out of the job scheduler. Thanks!MikePosted 6/4/2007 9:03 AM bennywestaedtThere are several possibilities to enable messaging for the mainframe.1. monitoring tools like patrol can send emails2. Some jobscheduling tools provide follow-up of submitted jobs3. an extra step at the end of your jcl that checks the jcl and send an email. So depending on your mainframe environment and available tools there are numerous ways to create and send emails from the mainframe. The Teamtrack side can capture easily the mails that are being send to a particular mailbox and create incidents for it.Regards,BennyPosted 6/5/2007 4:14 AM #oldforumpost#ChangeManZMF#post37e

You might even want to set up a separate skel just to check the application and set the flag and imbed that. It will keep CMNINLPM cleaner
