Hello,

we are using ServerExpress on Solaris and we intend to change to Linux.

On Linux I have to use another ServerExpress Version.

Is there anything else to change on Linux?

Do you have any experiences with the change from Solaris to Linux?

Michael

Hi Michel,

Many independent software vendors depend very much on the portability of COBOL which enables them to deploy to several operating systems using the same application code base.

So generally speaking, the COBOL itself should move with minimal pain including data files.

I would think the main challenges will be around any Solaris specific OS APIs the application might have been using or any other external commands being invoked by the app.

If you do find the application is calling out to the OS directly, consider replacing these calls with CBL_ routines provided by the Micro Focus runtime system, as these routines are platform independent.
