Dear Friends.

I have searched the OPENQM manual for the '$ED' command which I have shown below:

$ED Created automatically by the ED editor when first required, this file holds pre-stored edit command sequences.

The $ED file will be created automatically first time that the .S command is used to save commands
in this file.
Multi-line inserts cannot be repeated from a saved command sequence, will cause the .S command
to fail and, if edited into the pre-stored sequence manually, will be cause a warning message to be
displayed when the command sequence is executed.
Alternatively, a user can create a $ED pre-stored item by using the editor:
ED $ED item.name
The first field of the item must contain E as its first character. Subsequent fields each contain one
editor instruction in the sequence that the user requires the operations to be performed.

However, when I try the ED $ED P2  (P2 being the item.name), I get  'FILE NOT FOUND'

Any help will be appreciated.

I thank you

I answered this question for you in the OpenQM Google group. Did you follow the instructions given there? And if so, what responses did you get?

Hi Brian

Sorry for posting my query here as well as on the OpenQM Google Group forum, as I thought that it has become dormant.

As usual, you have explained my query and  I now realize that I did now execute the first two steps.

I have a need to use the Pre-store command and now that I understand how use it, will make job so much easier.

Many thanks

Vish

OpenQM Google Group is here: https://groups.google.com/g/openqm

Answer was:

Well, everything is there in the manual. As usual, it is just a matter of understanding what is written.
Start by editing a program file:  ED BP TEST <enter>
Run a command:  P <enter>
Now, save that command to the $ED file:  .S TEST
The response I get is:
Creating $ED file...
Created DATA part as $ED
Saved edit sequence TEST to $ED
Exit the editor and do a LISTF command. You should see the $ED file listed.
CT $ED TEST
$ED TEST
