Hi
After copying an empty (non-dbms) entity into a frame, I want to rename this by an entity out of UCGROUP
But there is no select component, but only a field to insert the exact name of the entity.
Same applies to fields

Hi Ingo,
In version 10 you can select the required entity (or field) from the Resource Browser (see Model tab on the right side of the Define Frames Worksheet). Once an entity/field is selected you can paint it on the GFP (Graphical Form Painter).

And we are aware that you currently cannot filter the results in the Resource Browser. The lab is currently busy implementing filtering in the IDE. First the U-Bar will get filtering and in a next step the functionality will be added to other areas of the IDE (like e.g. the Resource Browsers). The plan is to deliver this functionality in phases in the upcoming patches.
It would of course be nice, if it would also be possible to rename an entity from the Property Inspector and use for this a lookup screen. Maybe this is something that could be added as well. Although, I'm not sure how much work this would be. But I'll propose it to the IDE team. 😉
Hope this helps.

I just saw that Mike also mentioned the filtering in another post (see here).

Hi Daniel
I know that one can select a (new to the frame) entity from the "model" tree.
But this was not my question 🙂
If I already painted an (non-dbms or another dbms) entity, I wan't to rename this one.
Bur there is not "?"-button to select an entity
The only way to rename an entity is to write the exact "<entity>.<modell>" string.
In UF 9, you could select an entity in this case

Hi Ingo,
I've understood your question. I just tried to explain the way version 10 is working now. In Uniface 9 you always had to rename the entity after you've painted it. That was the way it worked. In Uniface 10 you already can chose the entity you want to paint.
There might be some cases where you want to rename an already painted entity, but these should be quite rare (I guess).
Anyways, the lab told me that renaming an entity from the Property Inspector using a lookup form is on a to-do list. But this feature has currently quite a low priority and there are other things we would like to build into the IDE first. This might change of course if enough users request this functionality.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ingo,
It seems that the IDE team is looking into making the rename entity functionality in the component editor more user friendly. Nothing has been decided yet, but it might be that the IDE will come up with a list of suggestions once you start renaming an entity (or field). Let's wait and see what they can come up with. 🙂

Good old hack - dump component to XML - rename objects in notepad - reimport... haven't got time to wait for version x of a future release.... 🙂

As there are no DTLF to invoke index forms in the new U10.3 for a rename,
a full qualified NOMENCLATOR (running in a sperate process) is documented
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/turf/u8y_nomenclator-support-names-in-u10-3-t1729.html
As Knut Dybendahl commented on 181219:

Hi Ingo,
Smart suggestions have been added onto the rename of an entities and fields. You can now just start typing the name and Uniface will give you a list of suggestions to pick from.

Mike
