Hi Freaks

I try to install an UROUTER/USERVER on customer site

Then I tried to start USERVER in a command boxshell

Windows is interfering with an "App not allowed warning" and in the command box I got an "access dinied"  message.

Hi Ingo,

There's not much to go on, I'm afraid. Just some questions:

> "Then I tried to start USERVER in a command boxshell"

What exactly did you try?

> "Windows is interfering with an "App not allowed warning" and in the command box I got an "access dinied"  message."

I don't really like these kind of messages. It seems that Windows is blocking something. No wonder it does not work. But what are the exact messages. Never seen something that resembles "App not allowed warning".

Also, the excerpt from the event log "complains" about a problem with the uniface.exe and not userver.exe. Not really sure if this is related to what you've described above.

> "Okay, look like .NET is no proper installed"

Uniface does not use .Net. :-\\ But the exception code 0xc0000135 could also point to a problem with the Visual C++ Redistributable. Although, the faulting module (ucall.dll) is not the one from Uniface, but from Windows (the version number of the module gives it away).

It, however, does not make sense that the URouter is running fine. If there would be a general problem with the Redist then the URouter also should not start. Maybe you should first try to resolve the issue with the "App not allowed warning"?

Hi Daniel

This "App not allowed warning" is a blue bar across the whole screen.
No way top copy the exact message
Only to press "okay"  and then USERVER quits with "access dinied"

With UCALL.DLL
There is one in common\\bin and you say, that's not the UCALL which is mention in the event log?
Okay, then I should search windows for such a DLL

I've never seen (AFAIK) anything like what you are describing. Maybe you could provide a screen shot for reference?

But it seems that you have to get rid of this "App not allowed warning" first; meaning make sure that the UServer is an allowed app.

An the UCALL.DLL of Uniface should have the version (e.g.) "10.3.2.44". If it shows something like "6.2.9200.23060" then there's really something wrong.

USERVER seems a valid/allowed app, but in combination with UCALL, this messages appears.

I did search our filesystem for UCALL.DLL
Only UnifAce does have such a file

My idea is now, that on customers site, there is a UCALL.DLL for another application.
And UnifAce does load the wrong one

BTW: 6.2.... now as you say the number is strange: It looks like a SQL-database DLL

I found the version number

"SSU (Servicing Stack Update) für Windows Server 2012: 9. Juni 2020"

Does UnifAce have such an evironment to check ...

As this only happens on customer site and I don't have access to the servers, I have to wait for a "colleague" to show me the error again. And as the environment is high secured, it's not possible to install some debug utilities (liek sysinternals) on that servers.
Not easy to find the cause of this error 🙂

Thanks. It seems that this popup appears when you try to run a 64-bit program on a 32-bit Windows?!? I'm guessing this is not the case?

It, however, seems that this error can also be caused by a corrupt file. See e.g.

Or maybe there's another permission problem. It seems that the following message from the urouter log file actually comes back from Windows (this is not an error message from Uniface):

0:00.221.96 t=4560: [Mon Jan  4 17:20:10 2021] err=-1: svstart: The operation completed successfully.

So, are you sure that the UServer user has sufficient permissions for the files and folders it tries to access? In another case this error was actually caused by a missing user (that was removed or did not exist in the first place).

Maybe you can try to login as the UServer user (UF_WASV) and see if everything is in order.

It seems that this particular version number is applicable for several Windows versions. I don't think it has any real meaning. And Uniface does not do any environment checks here.

It's more likely (as mentioned in my other comment) that there is a permission problem of some sort or some data corruption (e.g. missing or invalid files). If the Uniface application works on the same machine and only the UServer has the problem then there might be a problem with the UServer user.

Hi freaks

Just an update
UnifAce did help me finding some of the sources of the problem
*There was a corruptes file (blame window on copying files? Network problem?)
*The rights for the local system account is not suffient to start USERVER.EXE
We also try urouter/newacc which didn't work either
Only if the local system account is member of adminstrators USERVER will start
We do further investigations into this issue
