ODBC - who is using it?

We are going through some reviews of the PAM (and the source document) to try and make it simpler and easier to understand, and the fact that ODBC is *only* listed for Windows 7 came to my attention.  It's not been verified for other (newer) Windows versions because we've not had requests for it.  Is anybody using it? If so, I'd like to know what data sources you are connecting to, and what version of Windows you're using. Replies welcome below.  If we need to create a user story to verify this on other platforms, we can do so.   I also need to think about Uniface 10.  (if you ask questions, don't expect answers from me for the coming couple of weeks).

We use it to connect to the sage line 50 accounts package for over 70% of our customer base. .  We run this connection on just about every supported flavour of windows operating system (2008, 2012, 2016), and some client systems as well (Windows 10, generally).

Hi Adrian, as far as I know most Uniface users are using ODBC to connect to unusual data sources, like: - collecting dipartimental data on an already existing Access database (built outside control of the Uniface application) - getting data from unusual/custom data source on unusual platform ODBC it is today like a swiss knife: it is NOT perfect but it is really useful in many cases !!! Hi, Although we use the MSS-driver $MSS MSS:myserver..... all connections to the database go through the ODBC-source. I suppose that this doesn't mean that we need the Uniface ODBC-driver. However I just want to point it out, not sure if there could be some kind of dependency between Uniface MSS-driver and ODBC-driver. Probably not. Does everyone using Sql Server go through an  ODBC-source or can this be handled in some other way (should perhaps open a new thread for this one)? Regards RogerW.

Hi Roger, The MSS driver always uses ODBC data sources, but it has no relationship with the generic ODBC driver. It is best practice to only use the generic ODBC driver when you need to access data that none of our specific drivers can access. Performance and functionality can be somewhat limited in the generic ODBC. Theo

Hello Adrian, we are using ODBC and plan switching to Windows 10 step by step as soon as we have the new licences for Windows 10.   Norbert
