Hi Freaks

One of our customers ask me if it is possible to replace Oracle-Java by OpenJDK for the Tomcat web service or if there any restriction of specific (newer) Java-version.
We did some update of Oracle-Java and I never was confronted with any problems with Tomcat.
Does anyone have experience with OpenJDK and UnifAce/Tomcat
Is there anthing what could be a show stopper or causes us trouble?

TIA Ingo

PS1: I/we not specialists into this matter, we do an out of the box installation, some config and it runs :-)
PS2:i suspect that this request has to do with the log4j bug. Scanning UnifAce and Tomcat did not result in any hit that would be relevant

Hi Freak,

Uniface is supporting OpenJDK already since nearly 3 years. Not sure which "outdated" Uniface your customer is still using. ;-) It's most likely not supported anymore. Anyway, support for OpenJDK (8) was added with the patch 9.7.05.013 and it's bundled with the Uniface distribution since Uniface version 10.3.02 (see What's New in Uniface 10.3.02). OpenJDK 11 is also supported (at least with Uniface 10.3.03 and 10.4.01) and version 17 will be verified in the near future.

Please make sure to check which version of OpenJDK is supported by the Tomcat version your customer is using. If I remember correctly then there was/is a problem with Tomcat 8 and OpenJDK 11 (it works fine with OpenJDK 8).

I hope this helps.
