Rocket® Vertica

I'm running vertica 7.0.1 and need ODBC and ADO.NET drivers but can't seem to find any 7.0.x drivers anywhere. Are they posted anywhere?

I have been using the Informatica Plug-In for Vertica for about 6 months without issue. We recently moved our informatica host to the cloud. Now on occasion i get a broken pipe error.  I wait a while then rerun the job and it completes successfully. I'm assuming there is network trafic and some timeout/keep alive setting needs to be increased.  Any help appreciated.    node01_xx : VERTICA_1037 : [ERROR] SQL error: [Vertica][VJDBC](100024) IOException while communicating with server: java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe. HI, I am trying to load a parquet file to vertica database using spark java in my local system( Cloudera quick start vm & vertica installed). Does vertica db supports parquet file??? If it is yes could you please guide me how to do this. Thanks in advance...

Hi all, We have Vertica 7.1.2 on 10 node cluster.I installed the management console on this cluster and its work fine, but …Every time when I entered in the "Manage" tab on one of the nodes and I press on the Search at the "Vertica log" I'm getting an "ERROR: HTTP 401 Authentication Failed: Missing VerticaApiKey" (I entered already the VerticaApiKey after the installation, when I configure the cluster in the MC).Then I get popup of "API Key Authentication is Required", I entered the same API Key and get back to the main screen. After it I'm getting two massages at the massage center:API KEY ERROR: XXXXXX_clusterAPI KEY ERROR: XXXXXX_cluster MissingIt's happened every time when I try to see the Vertica log in the manage tab on each node. Does anyone know this? Can help…? ThanksChen

Hi, I am running Vertica 7.1.2.2 and 7.1.2.4 MC.The "system bottlenecks" tab of the activity screen in the MC says that network Tx/Rx goes even higher than 100%. At the same time, my network monitoring tool (collectl) says I am using 160 MB/sec, on a 10GB network. If I try to add on this network a file transfer, overal traiic can go up to 300 MB/sec. So why Vertica MC is telling me my network is used at more than 100% ??Is the MC assuming my network is 1GB, instead of 10 GB ...? Thanks for helping

Hi, I am trying to create a connection between two separate environments in my network across a dmz. I want to create a temporary breach in the production hardware so that I can use the "connect to" command between the 2 databases just for the data to transfer over, but I need to first know what the firewall and port requirements are. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I was looking for any suggestions on a performance issue I'm having post-upgrade, I'm new to Vertica and this is the first upgrade I've done, which seemed to go very smoothly however I've since found that there is a huge performance issue with an existing load script as follows: I copied my existing db to a new server and tested some shell scripts that load data into the tables using vsql, then upgraded to 7.1.2 (via 7.0.2). The old server and the new server both loaded data daily in around 20-30 minutes (same existing and new data being loaded), after the upgrade however the load takes 2 hours longer on the new server. I've just traced the issue back to the upgrade and wondered if there were any significant differences in the versions that would explain this slow-down. I haven't investigated anything other than Vertica versions as the db's were identical prior to the upgrade and the loading script and data are identical.  I'm new to vertica, any help much appreciated. Thanks,Despi

Hi all, I have a table with attendancedata having date, empno timein/timeout columns without weekend dates(Friday and saturday are weekends) Please Note:               1,  The table  is DateTimeAttendance               2,  Time-In is NULL for those employees who are absent. So my condition here is (TimeIn=Null) I tried the following analytics features of Vertica on data and got the outpout as follows      select name,date,CONDITIONAL_TRUE_EVENT(date - lag(date)>1)over(partition by name order by date) as ConsecutiveDatesCounter from DateTimeAttendance where timein is null group by name, date ; sample ouput : name                    date ConsecutiveDatesCounter Aaron Gadsen      19/3/2014    0 Aaron Gadsen      23/3/2014    1 Aaron Gadsen      24/3/2014    1 Aaron Gadsen      25/3/2014    1 Aaron Gadsen      26/3/2014    1 Aaron Gadsen      27/3/2014    1 Aaron Gadsen      30/3/2014    2 Aaron Gadsen      31/3/2014    2  Here 28/3/2014 and 29/3/2014 are weekends, so i want the Consecut

I downloaded the VMWare Server 2.0 and Workstation 7.0 (vmdk) file from myvertica.com on a Windows 7 machine. When I run "HP Vertica Analytic Database Server.vmx" using VM Player the VM starts but I never see nor the expected web page nor the login message to enter the Linux console. What should I do ?Many thanksStefano Scamuzzo

I'm attempting to write a polymorphic kmeans function that returns all the input fields AND the integer cluster identifier. I have user defined scalar functions working just fine, the example transform function and I have managed a polymorphic input transform. The problem is when I want the output to be polymorphic. I have defined outtypecallback and a related function. The outtypecallback function is being called and (by saving objects to file from within the code) I figured out the inbound spec for x in my outtypecallback function and hence, I assume, the spec for the return object. Here's what the return object looks like given 2 float inputs and the cluster identifier (integer) > x datatype length scale name 1 float 0 0 p1 2 float 0 0 p2 3 int 0 0 Cluster > str(x) 'data.frame': 3 obs. of 4 variables: $ datatype: Factor w/ 2 levels "float","int": 1 1 2 $ length : chr "0" "0" "0" $ scale : chr

Hi All, We have a requirement where we are building Vertica Flex tables from JSON files. As its automatically getting created we have few column names like: temp.sourcetemp.emailtemp.nametemp.id Now I am not able to select those columns directly using the column names, Ex:Select temp.source,temp.email,temp.name, temp.id from temp_table; YThe above statement gives me error saying, column temp does not exit. I know its because of Dot(.) present in between the column name. Now if I put the column names with in quote(" ") like below, I am not getting that error Ex:Select "temp.source","temp.email","temp.name", "temp.id" from temp_table; Is there any other way of handling this without adding quotes or updating the column names.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,-Amit

So I have a set of UDFs created for Vertica 6.1 and now I'm moving to Vertica 7. I upgraded it using "update_vertica". Do I have to recreate the UDFs? By recreating UDFs I mean recompiling the cpp files to generate binaries and then running "CREATE LIBRARY" and "CREATE TRANSFORM FUNCTION" function for each UDF.

Hi Everyone! We noticed that one of our previously working demos stopped working. We have a couple UDTFs written in R in our Vertica cluster. Let me elaborate a bit so you can understand what we found. When attempting to execute previously installed UDFs we got this error (there was no related dbLog entry, but I don’t know if there is more than 1 log directory) [Vertica][VJDBC](2858) ERROR: Could not find function definition [SQL State=VP001, DB Errorcode=2858] However, the function was listed in the following query, so the "missing definition" should not be the case. SELECT function_name, procedure_type, function_return_type, function_argument_type, function_definition FROM USER_FUNCTIONS;  After searching unsuccesfully for more information, we decided to rewrite the UDF by reloading the same .R file as library and recreate the UDTFs with the appropiate statements. However, that gave us another error vsql:trainingUDF.sql:5: ROLLBACK 2929:  Couldn't create new UDx side process, failed

This is the table I have and I have 5 distinct programs. when a user like a program it reads as follows: User Program----------------A      1A      4B      2B      4B      5However I want to write a query that will allow me to also see the 5 distinct programs for each of my user and create a new column that will take two value (binary) 1 if the user liked a specific program and if not 0. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks User Program NewColumnA           1             1A           2             0A          3              0A         4               1A         5               0B         1               0B         2               1B        3                0B         4                1B         5                1

Hi, I've seen a lot of messages "Node State Change" in MC Message Center. What is mean the message and whу it's critical on MC classification? Igor

Need help!On my Vertica cluster in MC I see some messadges: Agent Status Is DOWN On IP xx.xx.xx.xx. What is a problem? Can I drop the problem? Igor

Hello, I a using Vertica 7.1.2.2 with 7.1.2.4 MC.In the main screen, the "General pool activity" shows that the max queue time sometimes goes up to 1sec.If I click on the point with 1 sec value, it brings me to the activity screen where I can see details on the queue time for the general pool, which shows ..., 0 sec queue time !! For me, there should not be any query queing here, the queing threshold is at 95GB, and I am not using that much when I monitor the use. So what is the actual value of the queue time ?

Hi, We have 10-node Vertica cluster. One of the node crashed and I'm not able to figure out the root cause. Anyone can help please.Attached the ErrorReport.txt and the vertica.log (the crash was at 09:45:28.030 line 6139) from the problematic node. Your help pleaseThanks

I have had the task of supporting the deployment of an Analytics platform but have had no input into the installation and deployment of the components. A DBA is trying to deploy what he tells me is a policy and has an error I am somehow supposed to sort out for him. The error message reads: (PMD947) Version '0001.0002' of policy 'Cat2-Vertica-ActiveEvents.log' requires at least version '11.14.14' of package 'Operations-agent'. This package is not yet installed on the managed node. Please deploy this package to the node (or install it manyally) before this policy is deployed (because the automatic agent deployment feature is disabled on the server). This means nothing to me and I cannot find any of what would appear to be the relevant phrases in either the Vertica documentation or in any of the Tableau documents I have. Can anyone suggest where I even start looking for the package and how it can be deployed?

Hello All,Going through the management console, I see it is giving many warnings, stating "Time Service Task Error"There is no documentation on these warnings .what are these warnings and what are causing them.Any document which states all these warnings and errors and their causes.I think management console should have it own manual now.

Which ports I can monitor so I know if Vertica and database or other services are down? like 5450 if I monitor and not accessible, it can tell that Management Console is down.

Vertica application is writing its data to /opt/vertica which the data file is 1.3G. But Its writing logs to /var/log/boot.log stating low disk space from a check that it runs. It seems that this log file gets large as the vertica process keeps writing there and overtime the log file causes the filesystem space to go to 100 percent. I need help to look at more how this vertica program works and where if the config for the logging it doing in boot.log.You can See below. I backed up and zero out the boot.log file to free a little space for now.But the log file is still costantly being written to by this LowDiskSpaceCheck. Sep 9 04:29:10 qadae-vtc21a vertica 2015-09-09 04:29:00.001 LowDiskSpaceCheck:0x7fbed800f770-a000000329e1da [Txn] <INFO> Begin Txn: a000000329e1da 'LowDiskSpaceCheck'Sep 9 04:29:10 qadae-vtc21a vertica 2015-09-09 04:29:00.001 LowDiskSpaceCheck:0x7fbed800f770-a000000329e1da [Txn] <INFO> Rollback Txn: a000000329e1da 'LowDiskSpaceCheck'Sep 9 04:29:10 qadae-vtc2
