Hi.

We have few developers using licensed Enterprise Developer for Eclipse products (Micro Focus).

They all have the same installation paths.

Now they are trying to migrate to Visual Studio Code using the Rocket COBOL extension.

However, one of them is having problems with the activation of the Language Server.

Despite having configured the install location of the licensed product exactly in the same way as the others,

the COBOL Language Server is not enabled. (Language Server Autostart setting is also set to true)

When opening a COBOL file, VSCode detects it as a COBOL file,  but when checking the brackets on the VSCode status bar, (next to the COBOL file type) there's no information about the Language Server being used or enabled. If we type anything into any COBOL file, no errors are raised by VSCode.

We have checked the output of  the Rocket COBOL extension, but there is no clue about what is going on. There's basically no information about any activity of the extension.

So the final question here is :  How can we troubleshoot this issue ?

We have checked that the Enteprise Developer for Eclipse works fine, and the license is up and running.

Why the Rocket extension for VSCode does not activate the Language Server, when configuring the install path correcly ?

Thanks

Miguel

Hi Miguel,

Quick question...What Visual COBOL for Eclipse version and Patch Update level are you running?

Which version of the Rocket COBOL extension do you have installed?

On which platform are your projects, Windows, Linux or Remote?

Thanks

Micro Focus Enterprise Developer 7.0

Version 7.0.00329

Update level: PU 15

On Windows 64 bit platforms

(we are checking if other developers who are not having issues have the same versions)

Using latest Rocket COBOL extension for VSCode, 2.0.11 at the time of writing

Ok, other developers are using Micro Focus Enterprise Developer v9.0 with patch PU 10

Looks like for the Language Server to work, the minimum version of Enterprise Developer should be v8.x at the very least.

This particular problem should be easy to solve now, just upgrading the MF version for this particular developer.

Otherwise I would let you know.

Thanks !
