Is there a parameter which can be applied to the installer which does NOT attempt to install the urouter, and/or tomcat and the relevant users and groups?
When we install clients we don’t need any of these, and it is sometimes giving us permissions issues trying to create users we won’t use, preventing installation.

After a successful install we delete the services, so as not to leave listeners on ports which aren’t going to be used. But I’d much rather not configure this stuff in the first place (the user(s) are still created which is a potential back door to logging on to the machine….)

Also a parameter which allows us to control where the installer is ‘unzipped’ to, as certain client installs are failing because the unzipped files cannot be accessed.

Regards,

Iain

I’m following this thread because it has always annoyed me how much bloat was included automatically during the installation process. It takes more time and effort than it is worth to try and remove / delete everything after the install so I end up just leaving most of it there. It would be very nice to have something that was more specific to your particular needs.

Thanks for posting this topic!

Hi Iain

I’m also very interested in having an option during the client installation to specify that uRouter, Tomcat, and the associated users and groups should not be installed.

Currently, we also manually remove the services after the installation, since they are not required for our client installations. It would be much cleaner and more secure if these components could simply be excluded during the installation in the first place.

I have already discussed and raised this topic verbally with people from Uniface at Uniface conferences, so this requirement has also been communicated directly.

It would be great if Uniface could consider implementing such options in future versions.

Best Regards

Marc
