Hi My name is Chris Baxter
I am trying to get into AccuTerm after several years elapsed from developing a trial screen in AccuTerm 7 but customer not being ready.
They wish to push forward now. I have downloaded AccuTerm 8 trial and installed the system and Updated the Host Services, also installing the DEMO MENU hoping that I would at least start to gain understanding from that but it failed immediately
I am not feeling too confident at the moment :(
I have uploaded a screen clip as well
I hope someone will respond please
Regards
Chris Baxter

Hi Chris,
It failed trying to call the AccuTerm GUI initialization subroutine. I would guess that it didn't install correctly or the account you're running the demo in isn't set up.
How are you running the demo?

Hi Joe,
I created an account called Accuterm, logto to it and then run the Install from the MultiValue Accuterm dropdown, this seemed to go ok
Then I simply ran DEMOMENU when it had stopped
Then snapped the screen and sent it to you 😊
Kind regards

AccuTerm programs are stored in DEMOBP, FTBP, GUIBP, OBJBP and SUIBP. The install program creates them, uploads the programs into them and then compiles and catalogs them. From your error message the GUIBP ATGUINIT2 program was not compiled or cataloged in your account so something went wrong with the install.
You can try re-installing it. You can also manually compile the programs;
BASIC GUIBP *
Then manually cataloging them:
CATALOG GUIBP *
Do this for each of the BP programs above. Then check to see if DEMOMENU will work.

The install routine tries to figure out what flavor of MVDB is running and customizes the programs to work for that flavor. It looks like something went wrong with that process. The install routines have been around a long time and have been very solid. Maybe something got messed up in the new release and you're specific flavor isn't working. You might need to contact Rocket and have them help.
They'll want all your info, what OS are you using, what flavor of MVDB, etc. From the first screen shot it looks like you're running jbase.

Hi Chris -
I suspect that some demos are not running because of the jBASE version you are running. We test them on jBASE 5, but don't have access to older versions of jBASE for testing. The fact that the programs did not install correctly is also likely due to the old jBASE release. We try to keep things very generic to avoid platform incompatibilities but some things, like CATALOG, are specifc to particular platforms by their nature.
Thanks, Pete

Chris,
It sounds like your best path would be to try and find a newer version of a multi-valued database. Either upgrade jbase or try something else. Does anyone know if Rocket still has a free license to OpenQM? I really hate that their website doesn't show any prices. Just a button for quotes. When I see that from any company I think they're embarrassed about their prices.

I doubt they'll want to spend the time supporting an old version like that. Think about it, that version has been around for how many years? During that time, no one has even tried to install AccuTerm on it. The market for that old version must be really small. That version of jbase was probably unsupported before it was sold Rocket. I doubt Rocket will put any effort into supporting AccuTerm on it.

I don't work for Rocket. I'm an independent consultant. I'm in Scottsdale, AZ.
If you still have your old AccuTerm 7 installation program then you could just use that. AccuTerm 8 has some great features like being about to move a tabbed session out of the main screen into it's own window. They also have a web client so users can go to a web page instead of installing AccuTerm on their computer.
Your customer might want those features or not need them at all. You don't need them to get a prototype GUI of their applications. One thing I'm sure of though, if you're customer is going to be investing in upgrading their interface, they should also upgrade to a newer version of jbase.
I don't know Steve Fuller but I'm sure he's lovely.

OpenQM was a version that was free but you could pay for support. I don't know if there's a free version anymore so I honestly can't say if it would be a good option. I'm sure someone who is more familiar with the different options will chime in with better info.

Hi Chris,
OpenQM is a database that is functionally similar to the U2 products. There are features in OpenQM that are not in U2 and vice-versa.
Rocket now own OpenQM. You used to be able to freely download the executables and install the personal version without any interaction with the company, but that is no longer the case ... but you can still get the downloads from Wayback Machine (try May 2023). Essentially, you just go through the normal install process then enter "PERSONAL" as the licence number.
There was also a GPL version from circa 2006. It is still out there on the internet, but it really needs a 32-bit O/S to run on (and the code needs to be patched for modern authentication systems).
Download "Getting Started in OpenQM - Part 1" to get some assistance with downloading, setup, and basic usage.
Cheers,
Brian

Hi Joe,
Yes I believe they do own jBase
Shall I look at your code and see if I can correct the problems.
Kind regards

Hi Joe, After searching my backups I have found the original Accuterm 7 install pack and having removed 8, re installed Accuterm from scratch etc. - all the Demo programs work fine and the screen I created works. so I can continue to develop and encourage the customer to upgrade jBase etc.
If that is now acceptable - do we know if there are still Accuterm 7 license available ?

I don't know if they still sell licenses for AccuTerm 7 or what the prices are for the new release. I do think that if you're trying to use AccuTerm 7 so that you can run an older unsupported version of jBase, it's not a good idea. Just my opinion.

Joe - I totally understand, just trying to do my job as a consultant fairly and present all options but how do you get the prices etc, even for the current versions, let alone the steps needed to get there
No one seems to be bothered
Kind regards
