We need to print an EAN 128 barcode from a cobol program. Can anyone offer any examples or insite on the process?

Not a ready made solution, but might get you going in the right direction.

Many thermal/laser printers nowadays either have barcoded fonts loaded in them that are available for use or can have memory cards inserted in them. You can also download barcoded fonts that also work. Of course this all assumes you are using the WIN$PRINTER routines to print from.

If you are wanting to generate them using PCL it is more difficult but not impossible. I'm sure if you googled PCL and Barcode you might even find some free progs that you can pass in the text and it will return the PCL for you to insert into your document...

atm we only use kyocera or zebra printers to create barcodes, but before we used a barcode font to print barcode.

so it is normal printing only use another font (must be installed on the workstation). The only problem is the checksum for EAN128. You need a little programm which calculate it for you.
