I discovered that I had to use ACUCOBOL to set the place holders where the data will go and not the way I was doing. The example I have puts everything in column 1 of the line Here is my problem, I do not know how to place a place holder for a data item on a specific line or at a specific location on a line.
How do I, assuming I am on line 8 and there are comments on line 9, put the data place holders <> and <> on line 10 like so
8. CHASSIS NUMBER <> | 9. NAME <>
When saying placeholders, I assume you are talking about the merge datafields tag, right?
If so, and you are doing this programmatically, look at the WordMailMerge.cbl program and search for wrdMergeFields.
You will typically see something like:
MODIFY wrdMergeFields Add(wrdRange, "FirstName").
[\\CODE]
This inserts a marege datafield tag into your template document. When the template document is merged with your datasource, Word will look for the column in your datasource that is named FirstName and pick a value from there to substitute.
If you do the template document manually, you will be best of using the wizard I presume. But I would advise you to make the datasource in advance.
