I would like suggestions on how best to accomplish the following using AcuCobol.
Foreman in the field will be supplied notebook computers with a stand alone application written in Acucobl. To use this application they will need some data tables(vision files) from a remote application server. Approximately weekly they will need to refresh these files. After using this application (essentialy entering labor hours, equipment hours and units of production for the week), they will need to send a file back to the application server. They will have an internet connection when refreshing or sending files but the application will be used offline otherwise. This needs to be made as simple as possible to suit the computer expertise of construction foremen. The company has a hosted web page, they also have a VPN for remote access. Ideas appreciated.

The application can have a Connect to Host menu item or push button. When triggered, it can use ftp to send data (local Vision files) to a directory on the server. A program on the server scans that directory to see if new files have been posted, then reads and digests the data. You could sockets, but ftp should do the job.
