I'm wondering if there's a way Acucobol-software can check the Internet to do an upgrade if the software is newer on the server ?

If so, how to perform such a task ?

I know there are some 3rd party controls and software that do this, but I've never tried any and I'm not really sure how they work. I'd love to hear if anyone is doing this.

This sounds like a job for c$socket. There is a c$socket example using FTP that could probably be turned into an update service: http://www.acucorp.com/support/public/sample_programs/files/FTPapp.zip
I'll be using c$socket for FTP file transfer in my application soon. Not for an update service, but for document transfer into our system.
