We have been trying to use PLACEMENT = TVPLACE-SORT.

MODIFY TREE
PARENT = 0
ITEM-TO-ADD ADD-LINE
PLACEMENT = TVPLACE-SORT

The above just adds the item as if TVPLACE-LAST was used. The item attaches to the root (PARENT = 0) but does not sort into the proper position.

MODIFY TREE
PARENT = ITEM-POINTER
ITEM-TO-ADD ADD-LINE
PLACEMENT = TVPLACE-SORT

The above places the item under the proper parent but again it does not sort into the proper position but is simply placed at the end of the children for the specified parent.

Any suggestions?

As with the PARENT keyword, the PLACEMENT keyword must be specified before the ITEM-TO-ADD phrase.

Thus your code should be:

MODIFY TREE
PARENT = ITEM-POINTER
PLACEMENT = TVPLACE-SORT
ITEM-TO-ADD ADD-LINE

Thank you Duncan. I expected as much. Although not able to find any instructions to that effect trial and error helped. Also I was informed by tech support that if you intend to use "PLACEMENT = TVPLACE-SORT" at all then all initial items in the view need to be added with that property.
