prndemo.cbl is a sample program and is not an entire sample of all of the things you can do with Win$PRINTER, it is a sample program to get you started in the right direction.

I checked around on msdn, and I found the following statement from Microsoft, quote start:
"The status of printers and print jobs are updated by the Win32
Spooler during the despool of a print job. At all other times,
when that printer is not despooling and reports no state
information, the printer is considered to be ready and idle."
quote end

With other words, for finding out if the printer is out of papre is not available
in any Windows by design from Microsoft. I regret it, but it makes some sense, as a continuous polling to the printer no doubt would impact the performance of the OS significantly.

In order to get our application certified we need to make sure that the output
is printed. It is a paying/credit-debet application. (Bank-card payments)

Any help is much appreciated.

I am pretty sure that we have had spurious errors from opening a printer when it is off-line and certainly somrtimes when it is not even powered up. I have been terying to go back over our support logs to see any details - but the problem definitely exists. we use the windows spooler.
