Problem: File status 9/194 "File size too large" was reported against a sequential file.  The file size on disk was 7.5 gig.  The file handler configuration file included: [XFH-DEFAULT]FILEMAXSIZE=8 This FILEMAXSIZE=8 setting should allow the file handler to handle sequential files larger than 4 gig, but for some reason the error was still occuring. Solution: The environment variable EXTFH is supposed to point to the location of the file handler configuration file.   In the environment in which the application ran, EXTFH did appear to be set pointing to the correct file handler configuration file.   But when we added code to the COBOL program to reveal the run-time value of EXTFH, we learned that a script used to trigger the application had modified the value of EXTFH, so by the time the COBOL program was invoked, EXTFH was not set correctly.   Here is the technique used to reveal the run-time value of this environment variable: Insert

Is anyone reading/writing encrypted data from/to a text file with NetExpress? If so, how? I did a quick search of the knowledgebase and documentation and don't see anything about this. I need to store a database user id. and password in a non-clear text format of some sort, preferably using some strong, standard encryption. Thanks in advance for your help.

Problem: Programs that use the XML-PARSE directive, fail to compile with an exception 791043 in Visual COBOL version 2.3 Update 2 and 3.0 Resolution: In Visual COBOL 2.3 Update 2 and 3.0, the new parser used by XML-PARSE in XMLSS mode does not recognise the encoding "Windows-1252". Changing the XMLPARSE directive to use XMLPARSE(COMPAT) or changing the XSD's encoding from "Windows-1252" to "ISO-8859-15" can be used as a workaround. A fix for this compilation error will be available in the 4.0 version of Visual COBOL.

Problem AcuXDBC Server 10.1.1 64-bit is installed on the server.The installation works fine, testing it using the asql.bat script to run basic queries (without a DSN). I'm using Visual Cobol to access a MySQL Database.   I have the $SET SQL(DBMAN=ODBC) set, and I've even tried setting that in the Microfocus > Build Configurations > COBOL > SQL Preprocessor.   However the compiled executable from Visual Cobol, gives me the following error.             OpenESQL Error: Unable to load ODBC Driver/Driver Manager. Ensure that your     database environment is set correctly.   However if I compile from the Linux command line using "cob -xV Source.cbl" the executable works perfectly.   Its just a convenience thing, but any ideas how to get Eclipse to compile executable programs without resorting to me going to the command line every time?   Thanks for you help.     Eric Boatman

I have a question about clearing a pointer, please. I'm working on a program that uses a pointer.       01  REQUEST-PAYLOAD   usage pointer.       01  ZERO-LENGTH       PIC X VALUE x"00".       The program uses this command to set the pointer:SET REQUEST-PAYLOAD TO ADDRESS OF WK-CODE-BODY(1:CODE-LEN) The program uses this coomand to clear the pointer:SET REQUEST-PAYLOAD   TO ADDRESS OF ZERO-LENGTH My question:Is this the proper and most efficient way to clear a pointer set by the application? All advice, comments, and suggestions will be welcome.

As the subject line indicates, I am having a bear of a time activating MF VC PE.  Have uninstalled / reinstalled twice now.  Telling me that my e-mail address is not recognized and then tells me to got to the registration page but there is no registration link (that I can see anyway)...I would think that filling out the initial download info would have "registered" my e-mail address. I am trying to use HTTPPOST to upload an XML file via a web page. Content type needs to be multipart/form-data and it is posting to a form.   This works using Curl but I would like to do this in my program using HTTPPOST. Here is an example of the curl command that works: curl --form user=USERNAME --form pass=PASSWORD --form uploadfile=@XMLFILE.xml URL   I'm not sure how to do this using HTTPPOST. Do I need to set the payload to match the body of the post or is there a better way? As the subject implies: new Windows 10 PC, installed MS VS 2017, installed VC 3.0 for VS2017. Start menu has MF Visual COBOL section, but when expanded there is no "Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 20xx" entry like we have with VC 2.3.2 for VS2013. All of the other entries are there. Tried running repair, successfully, but no change to the Start menu entries. How do we start VC 3.0 for VS 2017?

Problem: In a Terminal Server environment, when the Runtime is physically on another machine and accessed via a mapped drive, the Runtime crashes for all users when either the first or last user to connect exits the application.  Whether it’s triggered by the first or last user depends on the OS.   Solution: This is a known problem and Microsoft has already fixed it in Windows Server 2016.  This Microsoft article describes the issue and workarounds: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2536487/applications-crash-or-become-unresponsive-if-another-user-logs-off-a-r The workarounds are: Install the Runtime on the server the remote users are connecting to. Do you know if Acu Connect has a time out setting.  If AcuConnect thinks that an AcuThin session is no longer running so it just disconnects the session. Scenario is a program is running that has a lot of records to process so is running for a long period of time - then without any error messages the AcuThin session is disconnected (program and menu programs are gone), user is sitting back at desktop.

Problem How to solve the problem - Application reports 114 out of bounds error on ADIS Resolution The PC with the problem has a high resolution set to 1680 x 1050. If the resolution is changed to 1490 x 900 the problem is fixed. Alternatively if the resolution stays at 1680 x 1050, and if the font type in the SSH emulator is increased this also fixes the problem. Problem Accented characters in an HTML file, displayed through a COBOL program are not displaying correctly. Resolution The problem is that although the characters look fine in Ultra Edit or VI editor on UNIX, they are being mis-interpreted due to an incorrect setting of LANG (locale) environment variable. Using the locale command, displayed the following environment variables..LANG=en_US.UTF-8LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8"LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8"LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8"LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8"LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8"LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"LC_PAPER="en_US.UTF-8"LC_NAME="en_US.UTF-8"LC_ADDRESS="en_US.UTF-8"LC_TELEPHONE="en_US.UTF-8"LC_MEASUREMENT="en_US.UTF-8"LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_US.UTF-8"LC_ALL= As the accented characters are not UTF-8, there will always be display issues if the program is run with UTF8 locale. I have recently downloaded Visual COBOL for Eclipse for SUSE 12. While going through some of the installation video they said that I can install DevHub product on Linux and Visual Cobol product on my windows and can connect it remotely and work on it. Can somebody please tell me if DevHub is a separate download from Visual COBOL and if yes, then where to download it from. Can someone please provide the link.
