My form consists of several dropdown list 'Comboboxes' with several values in each box. The first time into the code I'm setting up textboxes which accompany these boxes like so... set mystring to EMPMAIN-USC-RATE(1). set Tax-USC-R1::SelectedIndex to Tax-USC-R1::FindStringExact(mystring::TrimEnd(' ')) set uscIndex to Tax-USC-R1::SelectedIndex. >> If Rate 1 is ZERO then disable all entry boxes for USC if uscIndex = Zero set TAX-USC-R1-ACO::Enabled to False set TAX-USC-R1-PCO::Enabled to False set TAX-USC-R2::Enabled to False etc etc.. I have 'SelectedIndexChanged' methods attached to each Combobox where I want the user to be taken should they change the initial value thats in the Combobox. The problem is that the code is bouncing to the 'SelectedIndexChanged' method in the initial set up of the boxes which I do not want it to do. Is there a way around this problem? e.g I only want the 'SelectedIndexChanged' code to be done IF the u

Problem: Visual COBOL 2.3 for Visual Studio 2015 fails with the following error message: Setup Failed 0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation. Fix setup issue(s) and retry. For more information see the log file. Resolution: Visual COBOL setup verifies and installs few pre-requisites if missing. When one of these pre-requisites fails to install, then the error above occurs, and the log file should indicate where the problem occurred. For instance, the error is reported in several lines: Error 0x80070643: Process returned error: 0x643Error 0x80070643: Failed to execute EXE package.Error 0x80070643: Failed to configure per-machine EXE package.Applied execute package: jre, result: 0x80070643, restart: NoneError 0x80070643: Failed to execute EXE package. In the fourth line of the error messages above, it indicates that jre was the package that failed. The actual command is reported in the same log file few or several lines before the error messages with an entry starting with "App

I tried to connect to MySQL in Visual Cobol 2.2, but I can't do it. my project -> property -> SQL -> OpenESQL -> <ADD> -> Select <DBMAN> -> After that, I can't select ODBC, so I can't use ODBC. In addition, when I use "Tools menu -> Micro Focus COBOL -> ADO.NET Connection Editor", I get error message "This provider does not support generic ADO configuration method". I have already installed ADO.NET driver and ODBC driver for MySQL. I really want to study COBOL again. #MySQL#connection
Error 179 - MFRUN.gnt cant be found on COBOL Server for Windows I have looked at previous post on this subject which seemed to be cleared by simply restarting server community.microfocus.com/.../9268.aspx. We have compiled a simple program to gnt through Visual COBOL 2012 and I can run successfully from CMD prompt by - RUN PROG1 The gnt is then transferred to a Production Server but whenever we try to run as above we get - Error 179 - MFRUN.gnt cant be found. Also tried RUNW etc. On the Prod server we don't seem to have CREATEENV.bat as on Dev Server. We created one of those to set up the environment. I don't believe it is ever getting to our application program. However, we have some other programs called from C which appear to get called successfully - so the cobol run time appears to be working ok. #Error179
Hello, usually we create an atc-file with all the thinclient options and tell the system to execute files with the extension ".atc" with the default program "acuthin.exe". Is there a way to call "acuthin.exe" with the atc-file as argument for example "acuthin.exe -f project.atc" ? Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi, I am new to visual cobol and 3 yrs exp to Visual Studio. We have requirement where we need to design a win forms using VS and write a cobol program which will call these win forms. We will set some values in copy book from the cobol program and pass that copy book to win forms for displaying data to user. The Cobol Program is the entry point which will invoke win forms based on certain condition. The cobol program should be of native project type and win forms should be of manged type. I did some googling and was able to call win forms but when I add copy books as parameter to a method I am not able to make a call. I am getting error saying "The parameter name is incorrect". I have added a sample project file of my work.#COBOLVISUALCOBOLMIGRATION#FormVisualCobol#MicroFocusVisualCobol#MicroFocus
Good evening! I hope someone out there has already solved this somehow. I cannot seem to find a way to detect ENTRY-BOX activation if I tab into the field. I detect clicking to activate and apparently would be able to detect using "the control's key letter" however, it would seem that tabbing to that control escapes the attention of the ENTRY-BOX's message processing. Has anyone else had more luck finding information or perhaps there is some other discussion that talks about how to process the tab message for any control on a form. I'm using Acucobol 10.0 (compiling for 7.1) extend on Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks in advance for any advice! Jim Read#AcuCobol#Events#entry-fieldcursorlocation#activecontrolidentification#extend

Hi, We are using a linked server to query some Cobol data files through AcuXDBC on a new server. A query looked like this on the old server: select * into _t1 from openquery(XDBC_TESTREM,'select * from gjen'). It was working well. However, after we switched to the new server I started getting some errors and I had to format the date columns like this: CONVERT(NVL(CONVERT(GJ_DEPOTDATO,SQL_CHAR),TO_DATE(719527,''YYYYMMDD'')),SQL_DATE) AS GJ_DEPOTDATO I have 3 questions: 1. What can I do to avoid using that convert statement? Is there any setting somewhere that can make this work by default? (otherwise I will have to change all the queries) 2. Some dates are like this: 5112012. They are missing a leading zero. I tried a CASE WHEN char_length(...) = 7 THEN.. but I get an error saying that function 30 is not implemented yet. How can I handle this type of dates? (i am thinking to return them as SQL_CHAR and convert them in t-sql to dates) 3. Where can I find a full list of s

I'm having trouble opening an RM/COBOL indexed file. This program is a very simple example of the issue. It opens an indexed file and then writes the file status from that open step to an output flat file. When this program is run in Visual Studio the file status is 00 but when the exe is run (either by double clicking the exe file or by running it in command prompt) it is 30. I tried running Process Monitor (technet.microsoft.com/.../processmonitor.aspx) with a filter for any path containing "c:\\temp\\in-file". Leaving that while running the test program in Visual Studio, I see many processes show up. But then if I keep the monitoring going while running the exe, it shows no processes trying to access the input file, almost as if it never even tries to open the file. What could be different about running this program in Visual Studio vs running the compiled exe? $SET CHECKNUM $SET DIALECT"RM"
I've been trying to run down why the Micro Focus product help for Visual COBOL for Visual Studio 2013 displays as raw HTML in the Windows Help Viewer 2.1 on my domain-joined Windows 7, IE 11 PC for a month now. So far I've been told/have read that it has something to do with my account "inheriting" enablement of IE ESC from the servers on our network. Since the **ONLY** symptom of enabled IE ESC on my PC is the display of the VCVS help content in Help Viewer as raw HTML, no pop-up dialogs about blocked sites or IE ESC warnings, I wanted to try the commonly suggested work around of adding the location of the help files to either the Local Intranet or Trusted Sites zones in IE. But all I can find are the HTML help files for Enterprise Server. So where are the HTML help files for the rest of VCVS put when you do a default install?

Is there a way to use the COBOL File Handling routines with filenames that contain spaces? I want to use CBL_RENAME_FILE to rename a file from say "TEST-FILE.TXT" to "TEST FILE.TXT" i.e. I want the final file name to include a space. Is this possible - with this routine or in any other way? Many thanks,#CBL_COPY_FILEerror#netexpress

Problem: Whilst trying to find out about the licenses being used currently within apptrack - it appears to not do anything when 7 Current Users is selected. How can you make this work? Resolution: There is an apptrack.log file in /var/mfaslmf This registers all licenses being used from apptrack Do the following to find out more what process is using a license: touch apptrack.log cd $COBDIR/aslmf ./apptrack 7 Current Users This will show the actual users and more importantly the process ID. Find out more regarding the process ID by using: ps –eaf | grep ‘process ID’
New to using Relativity and being told that there is no way to do a TOP command. How do the rest of you handle situations like this and also deal with temp files that grow to more than 4 times the size of the actual Visual Cobol data file? Any other helpful guidelines welcomed as we are trying to stop using a different ODBC application and stick with MicroFocus.#Relativity#top
I wish you could comment code not only by asterisks in column 7, but so from-to: * / This indicates where it is not considered code and .../ * ... This indicates that ends on neutral code This will avoid having to put asterisks in column 7 when there are many lines to comment. Thanks. #RMCOBOL
Problem When trying to debug into the Cobol SQL CLR stored procedure, you may get the errors below: 1. Get error "Unable to debug .NET code. Could not attach to SQL Server process on xxx". 2. The debugger just steps over the EXEC SQL CALL statement, you cannot step into the stored procedure. Resolution: For the first error, you need to run Visual Cobol for Visual Studio as administrator. For the second issue, please double check the following: 1. The Calling program's project property, debug tab, the Enable SQL Server debugging option is set. 2. In Visual Studio SQL Server Object Explorer, right click the SQL Server instance, and ensure that the Allow SQL/CLR Debugging option is checked. 3. If you have rebuilt the SQL Server Database Project, you need to re-Publish the stored procedure to SQL Server before starting debugging. Please check Tutorials: SQL Server COBOL Stored Procedures in our documentation for step by step procedure on how to work with Cobol
My program uses Dialog System to capture the conditions to make an Excel Worksheet. After finishing the first producto in Excel I start the Dialog again to see if the operator want to add other products, using the following COBOL instruction: MOVE "R-FIN" TO DS-PROCEDURE PERFORM CALL-DIALOG-SYSTEM. The R-FIN procedure is defined in the GLOBAL DIALOG as follows: R-FIN SHOW-WINDOW DBOX-FIN REFRESH-OBJECT DBOX-FIN SET-FOCUS EF-SIGUE Up to this moment it works perfectly, the Dialog Box “DBOX-FIN” is shown and the Entry Field apparently receives the focus and the content of the master field is displayed. But the focus is only apparent, because, although the field is highlighted in blue, anything I type does not appea
